An elder used that exact same story during a public talk at my hall once. I recall a couple of kids exchanging looks and rolling their eyes during that talk.

But I also recall a talk where the spring was used as an example. How you clamp down hard when the kids are young an gradually release pressure until they reach an age where it's time for them to go. The comparison is of course that when a child goes away from home, he will remain at the hall because you've released the pressure slowly. The child won't bounce away like a quickly released spring.

The ones I've seen leave home usually bounce away.....quickly

Oh how rotten these parents must be for not letting their children meet all the "worldly celebrities". I mean if they would have just let their kids have their own way, maybe the opportunity to meet J Lo or P Diddy would've come their way. Bastards!

Yeah - I remember that one, It went over went in the congregations. I remember parents afterwards bragging about their level of 'meanness.' In retrospect - what a sick poem.

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they insisted that I wait until I was grown up and strong spiritually before they permitted me to date, and then only because the person was someone to their liking, someone who would be of the same disposition that they were.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, I can just SEE the mother............."Yes, I'd like to kiss those lips, fondle that body, have moral intercourse with that man! Yessireeeeeeeee, he's the same disposition I am!"

And the father! "Jehovah God! Look at his ass......he sure is to MY likin'..... alrighty baby!"

What a joke. "Arranged marriages" for the sake of religion before the sake of love of the individual is a grave mistake......millions make it.......and usually divorce. Seeing that jw's have the same divorce rate as worldly persons - no one can say that the jw way is better.

Btw, marriages so that one can have sex don't fare any better. The jw's who marry at 16, 18, 20 seem to last about 2 years. There are some that last.....but there are some that last in The World too.

My mean parents never let me meet any of the worldly celebrities. All I've gotten to meet are the ones Jesus Christ has selected to rule with him as kings and priests over all mankind.

    Puhleez!!

I just wanted to add: that statement really did almost make me hurl

Btw............interesting Biblical point here. Whoever married Rachel & Leah (Jacob at the well?)........Jacob (and first his servant?) was sent to look for a wife AMONG HIS OWN PEOPLE......NOT AMONG HIS OWN RELIGION.

And Jacob fell in love with Rachel, married Leah, then married Rachel......with his righteous parents' blessing. This is biblical.

When Jacob finally was ready to leave with his many wives and goats, the wives TOOK THEIR GODS WITH THEM......THEY STOLE THE IDOLS FROM THEIR FATHER. Remember? Rachel pretended she was on her period and thus sitting on straw, under which the idols were stashed. Her father wanted to inspect under her and she asked him if he was going to "expose her womanhood" or such. He backed off.

The interesting points are, according to the Bible:

Isaac & Rebecca wanted Jacob to MARRY WITHIN THEIR FAMILY LINES, according to the Bible..

Jacob MARRIED MANY WOMEN WHO HE KNEW WORSHIPPED FALSE GODS, according to the Bible..

HIS PARENTS APPROVED OF MARRIAGES, according to the Bible..

Jacob NEVER STOPPED HIS WIVES FROM WORSHIPPING THEIR GODS, according to the Bible.

Jacob "married outside The Truth" and was blessed with many wives, goats, and children......according to the Bible.

Btw, this finally occurred to me when I read the book, The Red Tent. Fascinating.

My parents were so mean. My parents were Jehovah's Witnesses. My mean mother used to beat me if I squirmed in the meeting. My mean parents used to beat me if I didn't want to get up early on saturday for field service. My mean parents broke a coffee pot on me when I was 7 for coloring in my bible story book. My mean parents broke a remote control on me for falling asleep while watching a Jehovah's Witness video. My mean parent's threw books at me if I laughed during famliy study. My mean parents kicked me out of a moving car when they heard from my home-school teacher that I hadn't done my homework.

My mean parents grounded me if I didn't make all my hours while auxillary pioneering. My mean parents called me a slut when someone commented that my dress at a JW wedding was a bit short.

My mean parents kicked me out of their home at 19 when I questioned their beliefs. And my mean parents didn't talk to me, up untill recently when they needed my help in a court case.

Yep..... Jehovah's Witnesses do make for mean parents
