How long till the WTBTS gets wise and reverts to Boozerford's more plausible explanation of "generation"?? Let's "face the facts" ( LOL!!!😈) and admit that this is the best explanation that the WTBTS ever had.

For some reason, the 1927 explanation won't paste. Anyway, the "generation" was said to be the anointed on Earth. Yep! Going with this explanation the FDS could do away with the overlapping nonsense while simultaneously explaining the ever-increasing partaker numbers. Especially would this be the case if they would admit that the 144,000 is symbolic.

They should have just stayed with that, but they just couldn't resist using impeding doom and date specific predictions to bring in new recruits and keep the faithful afraid to leave.

Someone in the Writing Dept and/or Teaching Dept just read your post, made some notes, and will discuss it for presentation at the Big Table on Wednesday.

144k can never be symbolic. The whole dubbie theology is based on two classes. They are elite because of it

I hear you Morpheus, but they could do it. All you have to do is push the "taking the lead" angle, while cranking out "Korah/obey" propaganda.

Eventually, they will be forced to do something. That is assuming their end game isn't the population of Warwick being the only dubs on Earth.

The next generational big date to watch is 2034.

By then the JW Organization might be 12 million and the over-lapping generation idea, although much loved, isn't going to hold water.

Sometime within the two decades remaining until 2034 that's when there'll be a change in the generation description. There could be an expansion to yet another overlap.

If the change in 1995 can be a guide then they'll lose some members. But all this would do is thin down the ranks a little by removing those who are the more critically minded JW's. The thinning down will result in ultra-loyal Governing Body followers who will be ripe for a push as 2034 nears.

So as the time is short for the 2034 date there may be another 1975 rerun. The new rallying cry will motivate publishers to do more for 2034.

Of course this date will arrive, many of us will be history by then, and then there'll be another thinning as there was among those who stayed alive until 1975. Except--and this may be crucial--in 1975 there wasn't an internet available.

The internet is already squeezing the Watchtower's monetary gonads by turning away new members before they take the plunge. This could make them fizz out into a shadow of what they used to be but fanatically fundamentalist, or make them more relaxed, more tech savvy and shed off the big cultish beliefs, like no-blood and DF'ing.

Whatever the case, I agree with DD that they'll be forced to amend the overlapping-Gen idea that they so much love right now. It could very well be seen as the anointed's-Gen that DD points out because there isn't a big jump from having one overlap, then two, three and eventually a continual overlap.

I think the reason for the overlapping generations is to put a new deadline on the generation teaching. Increases have been slowing and non-existent in some lands. If you look at the history of JWs, there is a significant bump in membership whenever there was a looming deadline- 1925, 1975, 1980s, & 1990s.

The 1995 "understanding" of the generation was too broad and basically gave no timeline for the end to come. Combine this with the relaxing of views on higher education and it's easy to see why the increases slowed significantly (the internet helped too, of course). With the new understanding, this GB have put a new deadline on the "generation" (around 120 years from 1914) and have stated that the 2nd group of the "overlapping generation" is advanced in age. Combine this with the increasing restrictions on higher education and it's easy to see that they are ramping up the urgency to push more hours out of JWs and increase membership.

I don't think they will change the generation teaching until the clock runs out or almost runs out on the current teaching (around 2034). The SOP of the last few decades is to only change an "understanding" when it is clear that the current "understanding" is no longer valid. Changing it back to the idea that it is just the anointed would remove the urgency just as the 1995 change did.

The next generational big date to watch is 2034.

You obviously are not listening at the meetings & conventions!

Don't you realize that the Great Tribulation is near? Very near? With Armageddon closing following.

Are you so blind to the horrible, worsening conditions that indicate we are in the final minutes of the Last Days?

To suggest that The End(TM) is 19 years into the future is preposterous. Clearly the GB do not believe that!
