Why assume anything? Why not wait for some confirmation first?
The reason I believe this could be important, if true, is that the WTS has rarely/never had to deal with a large amount of good old-fashioned inflammatory media scrutiny. They're likely to be shitty at it, and this meeting, if it is for real, could be the start of an orgy of bone-headedness.
You refer to the Ray Franz affair: this was all internal, of interest to hardly anyone outside JWs, and the WTS was able to effectively spin and control the information that got to its members. I don't think they can do that here, but I do think they'll try, and I think they'll get flayed.
Even when I was a faithful JW, it often seemed to me that as a religion it was getting a remarkably free ride from the media. It would be wonderful to see that end, to see them lose in court, to see them lose credibility... to see my wife and kids start to realize how they are being conned.
I hope its true... but I'm not actually holding my breath.
