Are JWs trying to make dysfunctional kids and destroy their ability to live normal lives?

Its weird how the narrative is always "stay single, but if you get married don't have kids", yet there has always been a steady flow of Jw kids coming through the ranks....

I think they are starting to realize, finally, that their real growth is coming from kids born into it. Their recent child centered indoctrination seems to be actually encouraging witnesses to have kids. They're becoming more Mormon every day. Pretty soon it will be 'you get your own 100 acres of paradise if you have 6 kids!'

    My thoughts exactly.

Although by doing this, they are going to alienate every couple over 40 who are childless...And every single person, and everyone who has had kids leave the "truth".

They'll mention their appreciation for childless couples and seniors and singles once a year in a watchtower study article and feel they've covered all the bases.

This talk of alienating. This is not possible regardless of actions or inaction of the WT or GB or other JW, UNLESS the person is open to doubt. ONLY the person who is not fully indoctrinated, the person who has some seeds of actual thoughts of their own, and doubts will be alienated. The reasons for alienation are many for the person who is open to it.

The others, well, just look at the Nazi's to try to understand what it means to be fully indoctrinated to the point that any absurdity is ignored or accepted.

I personally believe the GB is just fine with alienating anyone who has any ability to doubt.

It really all depends on the parents.

Some are very strict others not so. Despite Morris' tight pants rant there are still young people wearing "snug" pants with their parents tolerating it at least. There are young people going to see whatever movie they wish, partying, drinking, petting etc. That includes young pioneers and servants, by the way.

There are also young Witnesses taking advantage of community college education and in my area a few going for their Registered Nurse license. So the picture of young people in the Org. is not one that is easily defined.

It depends on what part of the country we live in, I suppose.

I agree and my point is that if the parents are very devout and the congregation is "spiritual" the children are going to have a hard time. If the congregation/parents are more secular and tolerant it will help the kids take less "damage".

The WTS/GB hates that term " normal life":

    - declaring that " these are not normal times", and suggesting strongly that, as a consequence, a normal life is impossible.

So if JW children are being reared in a manner that makes it hard for them to fit into a a normal life when they reach adulthood, few JWs would be concerned.

The canned response is that line about " these not being normal times". (Never mind the fact that these "not normal times" have been going on for a bloody long time!)

It is a deliberate policy to isolate kids from normal society. Just as when people study with JWs and are told that if their relatives and friends don't accept the 'truth' they are to withdraw from them and only mix with the congregation.

They are doing the same with the kids, making them seem odd and strange to kids at school and in the neighbourhood, not joining in with sports, holidays, parties. Once they are weird and lacking in confidence and social skills they have to keep running back to the congregation for 'acceptance', if you can call it that.

    Brilliant post.

That is what they do. By design or not.

Most JW / XJW are screwed up one way or another. And the irony is that 'the world' is much more helpful, accepting and safe than the 'Spiritual Paradise' for those who try to overcome the bad start the JWs get.

Go to the brothers for judgment, but to your choice of therapist / whatever for recovery, growth and a fairer crack at life.
