I just want to emphasize how one simple rule, not letting kids play extracurricular sports, causes a witness kid's social awkwardness.

Youth organized sports is SO good for kids. Not that they should be so tied up in all their time off from school that they have no free time. But just one sport is a great help to them socially. Middle school years (ages 11 to 13 or so), are an extremely awkward age...Especially transitioning from elementary to middle school. Guess what helps? Having played a sport with local kids. They will have been teammates with a great number of other kids from other schools, from each year they have been on a team. It widens their circle greatly. When they go to middle school, they not only know the people from their elementary schools but from every other school in town. Middle school becomes a fun place to reunite, not a daunting place where you don't know most kids.

Also, people have all sorts of different natural abilities. Often these abilities are in sports. What is a witness kid who is amazing at sports supposed to do? Totally deny their talents. Hopefully they are also great and passionate at something else, because they have no chance at all to develop athletic talent. So, thanks to the society for completely cutting off the potential of so many children who otherwise would have had a whole lot more self esteem as well as have improved their physical abilities. You know those nerdy people who walk strangely? Do you think they were on sports teams? Not usually. Sports helps kids work out the kinks.

I don't know whether it was designed that way, but it works. It's isolation. You're taught the safest place is in the org.

You necessarily don't associate with others so their beliefs don't rub off on you. As a side, you don't become social on the outside and can't fit in. So many people are dependent and return.

That was probably something that saved me. I always had friends on the outside. And I was exposed to worldly entertainment by my elder bro-in-law who loved rock and HBO.

Other than that, who knows what effect they had? I'm a computer nerd. Did I become a nerd because I was isolated from the popular kids? Or was I isolated from the popular kids because I was a nerd? If the former, did that come from the JWs? Or was I a nerd at heart? I'm in MENSA, so I'm guessing it's my nature, not JWs.

When I left the JWs, it was no big deal. I stopped seeing some of my friends, but by the way they were treating me, I saw they weren't really friends. So I didn't much care. I just flipped the switch over to my worldly friends who didn't care.

Holidays, still not crazy about them. My rational side doesn't see a need, but I still buy my kids presents.

Socially, probably. Used to have a hard time with women. The whole JW, you date somebody, you intend to get married thing. All the seriousness.

C0ntr013r - "Are JWs trying to make dysfunctional kids and destroy their ability to live normal lives?"

    No.

They're trying to make loyal and obedient members of an authoritarian high-control group.

The dysfunctionality and inability to live normal lives are unavoidable consequences of that.

The WTS. has tried to make children brought up in their cult co-dependent onto the organization as necessary in their lives, weaken their critical thinking abilities by lessing their education, instill a proportionate amount of fear of the world outside of the organization .

This is all intended to subdue children with the intention of making them subservient psychologically. to make them always in need of loving big brother or spiritual gurus, the GB of the WTS.

Don't you mean "a disproportionate amount of fear"?

Vidiot How about an overwhelming disproportionate amount of fear of the outside world.

The WTS has been trying to develop children into their own subservient slaves to be eventually used and exploited as the organization's own sales representatives, just like adults.

Every direction presented by the WTS and its leaders is advantageously life saving before Armageddon arrives, children are also afraid of death just like adults.

Is there something wrong with that statement, I don't think so ?

You cant deny that the WTS has strategically made the proclamation that most of every person or organization outside of their own organization is evil being guided by Satan and is his wicked old system of things but their organization on the other hand is being guided by Jehovah because its solemnly truthful and righteous

The WTS is after all a apocalyptic fear mongering religious cult that supports itself from the basic belief in the bible's own writings.
