dumb versus ignorant

    Larc,

You're absolutely correct. Intelligence is like a well made lamp with a 100 watt bulb. Without the electricity to illuminate it, its but a lifeless ornament. Turn on the light and intelligence becomes wisdom UNLESS fear prevents one from acting on what one "knows". I suspect many dubs are intelligent AND knowledgible, yet continue putting one foot in front of another following the company line out of fear. That emotion, my friend, drives most people to become intellectually dishonest and indeed "dumb" in the vernacular of the newly enlightened.

"It is very easy to convince people of something that they would like to believe ".

I started studying at 9, and left 18 years later. What I liked about it was they gave me simple answers to complex problems. They could, and would, answer any question I had. I left because they could no longer answer any question I had. So for me, I think I was both: dumb and ignorant. Dumb, because I saw only what I wanted to see, and hear only what I wanted to hear. That's dumb. Ignorant, because well -- I was only 9 and I had no way to know at that time I was being lied to. Fooling a 9 year child is certainly something to be proud of.

You know, OUTLAW, I just happened to be thinking about all the posts you make here on this forum and how few replies you receive from other members that you attempt to speak with. The fact is, it seems that I rarely see other persons replying to you ... you know that? It seems that you're always sucking up to others by way of saying flattering things, but they seldom respond. I suppose that people here consider the source, and just ignore you. One thing that might be the reason for your being shunned is the bad language you use so often. There are many people, believe it or not, that are turned off by such language ... particularly when coming out of the mouth of one they know is old enough in life and shouldn't be speaking and acting so childishly.

Is that the reason that you so frequently post to me, OUTLAW? ... simply because you can sometimes count on me replying? You REALLY are lonely in life, aren't you. Really, when I stop to think about it, considering the content of your posts to people, I think it's obvious that you are an extremely lonely individual that is seeking attention.

Actually you're an overgrown little boy that needs a switch taken to your butt. Do you think that you will ever be able to grow up? I do know one thing, that it's really a good thing that you don't frequent the meetings any more ... because you're not the sort of person that should be amongst those who sincerely try to learn about God and the Bible. As a matter of fact, if you, with your present foolish attitude, were to attempt to gain entrance into any Kingdom Hall that I were attending I would probably forget how a Christian is supposed to act just long enough to personally send you out on your ear in a way that you wouldn't soon forget.

Hope you change soon, OUTLAW, so that you won't be so lonely.

Regardless of what JW will tell you, joining the Watchtower is an emotional decision for most, if not all JW's. Your emotions make you want to believe it, sort of like falling in love.

The intelligent ones spend the rest of their life constructing their thinking to validate the emotional decision that they made. Simple as that.

I think that the intelligent JW's are very narcissistic (OK I'm on a narcissism kick lately and I see it in everything) in that they are too proud and vain to realize that it's all a hoax.

Hey, Dan, what is the "it" that is a hoax?

Is it the promises, the doctrines, the religion as a whole, etc...
