Dear Shanna,
Thank you for writing to Amazon.com with your concern.
Let me assure you, Amazon.com does not endorse "Understanding Loved
Boys and Boylovers." Simply because we sell a book does not mean we
agree with the ideas it contains. If you will look at our site, you
will see that we have posted a review of the book by one of our
editors which is highly critical of the ideas expressed in
Mr. Riegel's book.
Please know that, contrary to rumors that have been circulating around
the Internet, this book is not a "how-to" manual for molesting
children. The author simply expresses his point of view about what he
feels are "misunderstood" relationships between men and boys.
We believe that people have the right to choose their own reading
material. Our goal is to support freedom of expression and to provide
customers with the broadest selection possible so they can find,
discover, and buy any title they might be seeking. That selection
includes some titles which most people, including employees of
Amazon.com, may find distasteful or otherwise objectionable. However,
Amazon.com believes it is censorship to make a book unavailable to our
customers because we believe its message to be repugnant.
While we do not censor items from our web site, I wanted to reassure
you that Amazon.com does not promote these kinds of titles.
We value all feedback from our customers, and I thank you again for
taking the time to send us your comments about this issue.
Best regards,
Chelsea Rowley

Would they sell a book about the "misunderstood relationship" between a rapist and a 10 year old girl?
You are right, it is a lame reply.

The fact is that it is illegal. Do they sell books on how to build terrorist bombs even though some may find it objectionable? You're right it was a lame reply.

My question Lew, is how can they say they don't promote something like this ??? they advertise it on their website. In that, it is a form of promotion. You don't sell something you don't believe in or have a confidence in. This is another example showing where ethics has gone out the window. It is a sad commentary on the business practices of many companies today.

Sounds like Amazon.com has been taking double-speak lessons from the borg.
Xandria - I was hit by that comment of 'we don't promote it' and yet there it is!
Very lame indeed.

Hey, why isn't the BORG using Amazon to distribute their Publications?
They would make a great Combination Pedophile Paradise!

I always love how they hide the "Contact Us" link on web pages. This pissed me off (selling that book) and will try to e-mail them a nastly letter. Bad thing for them is I'm drinking....the longer it takes me to find out how to "Contact Them" the more severe the letter's gona get.

I asked them why I can buy a book on child molestion but not a PlayBoy magazine. Also asked when, "How to Make Bombs Like the Teleban" was comming out because I wanted a copy.

Very Lame excuse! Now I bet if this book was found in the home of one who had just been arrested for commiting a crime regarding male children and sexual abuse, it would be used as evidence in court. No wonder young boys are getting put into situations such as the one in Florida recently where they are forever scarred and their young lives now will be spent behind bars. I bet had this been a book about little girls it would of never made it to the public market. The little boys need protection too! This is just sickening!
