Ok...I must not quite be understanding this thread...help me. I don't post that often but do keep up with the happenings on the board. Celtic says this thread has nothing to do with the thread about the suicide, which I might add my condolences for it is so sad for a young life to be taken. But in my opinion (which may not mean much) I can see why Six and others would be questioning credibility after the post was made and then everyone interrogated for spreading the horrible news and going to media afterall this is a public forum everyone can see these posts. After some of the recent events such as a poster apparently scamming money and then attacking others to apparently cover his tracks I think other posters do have the right to be suspicious when something doesn't seem quite right. Just my 2 cents, I am not accusing or trying to provoke.

:Really, I cannot work out why you should be so aggressive about this?
Because I find it revolting when people make up stories, with the full intent of having the reader believe they are reading news, not fiction. It is especially revolting to think of the motives of these liars. And it is even more revolting when the story is one that tugs at our heartstrings like a JW suicide.
The last person who pulled this crap also made up a sidekick in the form of a boyfriend. Yep, made up stories, made up her identity, and made up a whole new person for us to chat with. You won't mind if I just communicate with you, Celty?
I bet Simon could help put my mind at ease about all of this.

I can't see Celtic making this story up. It just does not gel with his personality.
I have spoken with him many times, and met him socially too. He's a passionate, very caring chap, an ideal friend to have aboard in times of trouble.
He told me, when this whole thing bubbled up, that he had spoken with the step-mother of someone who had been disowned by her family, and that he had concerns for the step-daughters mental well-being.
If the story isn't true, then Celtic is only guilty of being gullible and believing what he has been told by someone else, IMHO. It would be typical Celtic behaviour for him to want to come dashing to the rescue, suit of armour and white charger too. I can't see how not wanting stuff plastered across the English press can be remotely construed as evidence of deviousness either, ye Gods, have you seen how our press behave over here?

I think unfounded accusations about people making stories up are rediculous and certainly not welcome.
Having also met Celtic in person I know how serious he is even though we may not always agree on every issue. There is no reason at all to imagine that he would make up something like this. Taking another post on a totally unrelated topic as some 'evidence' is crazy IMHO.
Englishman right too - unless you know the British press then you can really be doing more harm than good and causing a lot of hurt. They are both the best in the world ... and the worst in the world, depending on the publication.
Yes, it was posted on a publicly accessible forum but this does not give people the right to make decisions affecting the lived of the people involved.
DO NOT USE PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES AS THINGS TO THROW AT THE WTS
That is what they do, use people ... I hope we are better than that.

Sorry Simon and EMan,
I think that Mark was out of order with the post that he made :
If anyone has any information at all in that this story without permission was passed on to the media, I would like to know about it. If anyone in fact was foolish enough to pass this onto the media without express permission from Adele first, action will be taken to remind any such individuals that you acted bang out of order and to expect consequences resulting from any such action taken.
He is clearly threatening some sort of legal action on behalf of a person he names as Adele against anybody who sent the content of the post that he made to the media.
He should have thought about the implications of this post more carefully before posting to a public discussion board, with the potential of millions of viewers, including the worlds press looking on. He has only himself to blame for his lack of common-sense and threatening people after the event, especially as he in part caused the problem, is just not on.
I hope that this situation serves as a lesson to us all when we hit the submit button and post information to the public. Think before you speak.
Best regards - HS

I appreciate that ... I think the way he responded was 'a bit off' but considering someone he knew has just committed suicide ... I think it's understandable.
The reason he posted it in the first place was hee was trying to get the help that she (now) obviously needed.

I'll defer for now to E-man and Simons gut feelings about Celtic. My gut feelings are obviously different, but not shaped by having met Celtic personally. On this forum, he seems exactly the type of person who would make up such a story.
On the matter of "throwing things at the WT", this is EXACTLY the type of thing that needs publicity. It is not, by any stretch of anyones imagination, kind or loving to be quiet about a suicide brought on by the direct action of JW policy. If this really happened, it will be in vain if it is not exposed openly. And we will hear another story, not so unlike this one. Perhaps more like the one Sabine posted months ago, or the recently df'd friend of my friend who killed himself this past year (before his df'ing was announced).
The point is, if things stay the same, another beat-down, depressed witness will kill themself as a direct result of WT teachings. And another, and another..........
How many children must die before witnesses realise that their stance is unconscionable? The truth is, I have empathy for "Chantelle's" parents, I'm sure they are in anguish, if they exist. But screw 'em if they killed their daughter in their misguided attempt to please god via the advice of a two-bit cult masquarading as a legitimate religion. 'Adele'? If she isn't enraged by the things leading up to her 'adopted' (or is it step?) daughter's suicide enough to want it proclaimed to the world, she isn't human .
I have implicit trust in Stephen Bates' (the Gaurdian religion reporter who visits this forum) ability and desire to handle this story with appropriate sensitivity.

Simon
I agree that more publicity needs to be brought to the suicide / shunning issue but we need to consider the relatoves of those involved.
Stephen Bates seems to be very good and have a good handle on things - certainly not the "tabloid type" I was afraid of.

Tis the best recipe, after a storm in a teacup, a good ole cup of steaming hot tea, aye, very nice!!
Why do you talk like a pirate?
-
Englishman
Most people from Cornwall talk like that. You wanna hear what they have to say about us emmets and grockles too!
Plus, most pirates were from Cornwall now that you mention it. Most of them were wreckers, in the bad old days. They would extinguish the light in a lighthouse, light a false beacon, and lure ships onto the rocks. Then they would steal the cargo.
