I know the French stereotype of the British, that we all wear a suit and bowler hat and are the height of respectability during the day at our workplace, but when we get home we get all the whips and chains and S & M gear out!

I lived in England for a couple of years while doing an exhange tour with the Royal Air Force. I found the people to be warm and friendly and most hospitable. I discovered that my initial impression that they were a bit reserved was simply respect for your privacy. We had two sets of friends. Mine were RAF officers and their wives and my wife's were JWs and mostly gypsies. My wife lost her father while we were there and had to return to the states for the funeral. Our JW friends took the other three children in while she was gone since my duties prevented me from tending to them. Although I had some concern for their teeth since they were getting far too many sweets, they were well looked after. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to return that hospitality some years later when I was stationed in Germany and our JW friends came over on holiday. I also logged a bit of time in British hospitals since I came down with kidney stones while there. The facilities were horrible, but the care was terrific.

I always looked at brits and wondered if the sun EVER came out over there LOL! Just lumped them all together with dry senses of humor, or humour, being able to speak without moving their lips, loving a good pub and wearing their clothes way too tight. And oh..theres that missing teeth thing LOL

Of course, now I live in Florida and nobody has teeth here either LOL!
