Could you be more specific or elaborate a bit more stan ?

Of course there is going to be a measure of stress upon leaving a highly controlling cult , particularly if one has been bought up in it from birth. The WTS has instituted many walls around so many things such as education or perimeters in personal outside social involvement.

Some that have left did get themselves in behaviors that were self destructive to themselves but there more problems because the WTS. tells people to distance themselves from ones that do leaving such as family.

This breaking apart of families is one of the most destructive elements about this organization and has unfortunately driven some people to suicide.

I saw one of the carts last week, isn't the title on one of the mags how to deal with anxiety or something similar, surely all of Jah's happy people will be cured as soon as they read that article won't they?

M.E is one the JWs all seem to have.

Constant banging on the drum to do more, do more, do more, will burn anyone out if they take the religion seriously enough. Listen to to the GB, not to your body telling you to take a break.

A high number of them have all manner of illnesses--both physical and mental----that i had never heard of before. coincidence =-or what ?

I will assume you meant that in a sympathetic way, not that all ex JW women are crazy or sick.

I will say that being a JW did take a toll on me both physically and mentally. The constant stress did cause some problems, things that I will probably deal with the rest of my life. I have been out for fifteen years and mentally I am fine, physically not so much.

I think men are affected just as much, but maybe in express it in different ways. Some have anger issues, some have substance abuse issues.

It could be tricky to confuse cause and effect. While the religion might cause anxiety it also attracts people that are already pre-disposed to mental illness. That would create a vicious feed back loop.

If there are more "sick" women in the borg than men (and I'm not saying that there are.)

It may be because women are more oppressed in the borg than men are. At least men are considered useful, even if just for microphone duty. Women in the borg are suppressing more =more somatic illness.

Totally agree with all the above as neurotic consciensous people get taken for a BIG ride in the org, I know this firsthand. Everything I do I give my all, perfect recipe for disaster when you come across narcissistic, micro- managing, controlling power tripping people. The guilt button is huge on us and we are easy prey for manipulation of all sorts. I learnt to stand up for myself and not be so easily intimidated from this bad experience. A big in your face double biceps, pecs out head high body language makes them back down real quick, all it takes so sad and so silly. Thing is I though I was doping the right thing until I realized I was being worn down for everyone but myself. Didn't Jesus say his yoke was kindly and light ?

So getting walked all over and being a YES man to all led me to a suicidal burnout and adrenal fatigue, which has symptoms very similar to 'fibro myalgia' .I know quite a few sisters that claim to suffer from it.

Watch out for the sons of Boanerges in the halls, they are out to control you for their benefit and agenda !

Can't do anything but agree with every comment. They are all accurate observations.

The elder of my "supposed" congregation is on a huge amount of drugs for depression and other ailments. The whole family is on them. I know this for a fact. It's like a drug wonder world in their house. These people are not happy, they try to look happy, but they are terribly over weight and very unfit, despite the pioneering they do. They are full of anxieties and pressures. I have know the elder since he was a boy in my old congregation in the sixties. He looks older than me, she looks older than me.......they are not a healthy balanced family........

Obvious well known quote that applies : " If you don't run your own life someone else will "
