Yes, I must agree that their tendancy to believe that anything happening to those who aren't as active is a result of their "inactivity", etc., is ridiculous and childish.

I had to laugh when reading your post, Scully. Everyone's been waiting with bated breath for something bad to happen to me for about 15 years now. Even my wife, who is still in, was commenting on it one time.

I looked at her and grinned. "Honey, I'm quite sure that when I die at 105 years of age that someone will be around saying, 'See! I told you it would catch up to him!' " She broke out laughing.

Unsympathetic? Lacking empathy? I'll say...even when you are a member in good standing.

When my son was diagnosed with leukemia, an elder approached me and asked me how I was doing. I honestly said that I wasn't doing too well, that I felt like Eric had been given his death sentence and it was almost too much to bear. By way of counsel, the elder remarked that I had no business crying, because when Eric died, he would wake up in the new system. I was stunned and the scripture about Jesus hearing the news of Lazarus' death came to mind. Jesus cried.

There was a jw who used to work in my building. Within months, he lost his mother, mother-in-law, brother and has a son who was in a very bad car accident and almost died. He was almost flip when he talked to me about it. Sort of, "Oh well, that's the way it goes." I don't know how this man acts in the privacy of his home, but he just seemed so blatantly unfeeling. Mind-controlled zombies...

    Amen Scully!

Oddly enough, the worst things that happened to me, all happened while I was an exemplary JW, at the hands of other JW's.

I look back at my life and see that every major life event, good or bad, was overshawdowed and "ruined" because of direct interference of JW's or being required to implement some JW policy.

Add to that the laughable attitude, if your successful as a JW-- God's blessing; successful when your out--Satan's blessing. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Good thread. I'm sorry about the young man's death, that's very sad.

And the lack of compassion is once again not surprising. Everything is conditioned on performance in the mind of the typical jw. The Society might say, 'we don't teach this stuff' [lack of compassion], but they do indeed promote that mindset in their people....look how many feel that way. It permeates the whole religion.

So some bad things may happen to people after they leave the JW's. At least they're not in a cult anymore. If it came down to getting very sick and having to deal with that I'd much rather have to take care of it than being a JW.

I am saddened by the young persons death. For the most part I see the down side of the witnesses and their lack of caring and compassion and I have had my fair share of it. But on a certain day back in 1975 I died three times on an operating table. This operation was an emergency operation and prior to the ambulance coming to my home my now ex husband called our presiding overseer, When we arrived at the hospital and when I became critical the PO arrived at the hospital and stayed by my side the whole time until they rolled me into surgery. He even prayed holding my hand and he was truly sincere and caring. He stayed until three o'clock in the morning. This is the one and only time I can honestly say that an example of love was shown to me. At others times when I was ill and in the hospital no one from the congregation came to see me. My mom came once with my sister. This was my starting point in making up my mind that their was no longer any love or caring left within in the organization.

The WT.can have it both ways, can't they? If you violate any of their commands and something bad happens to you, it's because you have no blessings. The exact same bad thing can happen to a Witness in good standing and it's time and unforseen circumstance.......The sad thing is if the father never did have nightmares or felt remorse.

So sad to hear of a young persons death. It's amazing how they judge even in death. I remember when my favorite Grandmother died when I was a child, she had passed away very suddenly in the middle of the night. The next morning I was so upset, but my Dad made me go to school that day. He said you will probably see her in the new system. Since she wasn't a witness, he said now she will have a chance at everlasting life. I will never forget that coldness. My teacher and classmates gave me more sympathy than my own witness family.
