While the U.S. did support the Afghans during the Soviet Occupation (thus giving them their own Vietnam) this is hardley evidence of some great oil conspiracy. When you figure that the Taliban have been around for awhile- even during the Clinton years- its pretty lame to try to tie it into some great oil conspiracy headed by Bush. Yes bush has ties to the industry, but then so does every other congressman. Its like saying that Texans were behind the attacks so they could have another oil boom. Its silly. The issue of attacking the Taliban was about their support of Bin Ladin. If OIL was the true goal, we would have stayed in IRAQ in 91.

    bluesapphire,

    this surprises you?

there were probably several reason why Bush decided to attack afghanistan without solid evidence against bin laden or the taliban.

    a) he had to attack someone since the US public screamed for revenge.

    b) the US gets additional bases in the area.

    c) the oil buisness is without doubt of interest to Bush and the government.

    d) they could pretend they also do it so they can help the poor people in that country against the taliban.

    >Bush blamed Bin Laden but has never offered any proof saying it's a

Not True. There's a tape that was put on the air that shows Bin Laden and his cronies sitting around on their butts praising the execution of their plans for the towers... "better than they expected".

Al queda means 'the base'. When volunteer arabs from all over were streaming into afghanistan to fight the russians, w US support, bin laden was working to provide housing, weapons, food, training, etc for them. There was probably a list of names kept, as well. That was 'the base'. But back then, the were called freedom fighters, muja hiddin. Now they are all relabeled terrorists, al qeuda.

The tape was presented well after the war started.
The afghanis were asking for proof before the war.

The US Did NOT in fact support the Taliban against the Soviet Union. In fact, the Taliban didn't exist during that fight, at least not in Afghanistan. The US DID support the Mujahedin, the Holy Warriors. Later, when Russia pulled out fighting broke out between the various Mujahedin factions. The Taliban (meaning "Students") came in from Pakistan to fill the power vacuum. The Taliban formed in the radical Madrashas in Pakistan that formed in many of the refugee camps.

As to the rest of the drivel you poured out, one word ...PROOF. What oil company spent 10 Billion on researching a pipeline?
