I need your help. I am a 36 year old father of 2 girls putting himself through night school to get a college degree. In my current sociology class we have to do a paper in an interview style of a culture, subculture or group that we know nothing about and are interested in. I decided to find out about Jehovah Witnesses. So if some one could answer all or as many of these questions that would be a big help, as almost all the information I can find on the net is anti-witness or about leaving the religion.

    Thank You

    Jason

    What is a Jehovah Witness?

What made you decide to join the Jehovah Witnesses?

Are you happy being a witness?

Why do you go door to door?

How often do you meet for services?

What is the significance of the number 144,000?

Why do Witnesses refuse blood transfusions?

Why do Witnesses refuse organ transplants?

Are you allowed to serve in the military?

    What is the WatchTower?

Why dont you celebrate holidays or birthdays?

Those were the easy questions. I almost hate asking these next few because I dont want to offend anyone and not have them answer the questions. So if I offend anyone with these next questions I sincerely apologize, I have to ask them because I read about these issues on the internet.

What is with the date 1975?

    Who is Frederick W. Franz?

    Does the WatchTower contradict itself?

Are you really shunned if you are thrown out?

Are you allowed to study any version of the bible or do you have to use study guides?

Do you have doubts about this religion?

Please be assured I will use no names in my term paper and any answers will be used only for this paper. Please send the answers to me at my e-mail address [email protected] (I used to be a truck driver) or respond in this forum I will keep checking back.

    Thank You

    Jason

Jason-this site is a vast majority of people who are no longer witnesses. I don't think you will find what you are looking for here either. Or on the internet at all for that matter. The Jehovahs Witness's are told not to look on the internet or spend time on the interent on message board and chat rooms because it could be a corrupting influence.

Some people might be willing to answer your questions but will probably have an anti-witness slant as well. Your best bet would be to get in contact with some local Elders. You can call the Kingdom Hall located in your phone book. A lot of times it has a number listed for an elder, and you could ask to talk to some of them.

I did call, they wanted to setup a bible study. Even answers from an ex JW would do for the paper I could just redo the topic to be more alligned with an someone who used to be a witness.

Thanks for reading the post and replying.

What is with the date 1975? The world was supposed to end.

Who is Frederick W. Franz? They say, one of God's most holy chosen.

Does the WatchTower contradict itself? Non-stop.

Are you really shunned if you are thrown out? Their own children.

Are you allowed to study any version of the bible or do you have to use study guides? I quote - "Avoid independent thinking".

Do you have doubts about this religion? No - still the worst I've seen so far.

Hi, Jason. Welcome. The only question I have the energy to answer is: Do you have doubts about the religion.

I stopped being a witness about five years ago. For 30 years, I really believed in it, even when I felt I couldn't live up to it. I did have some doubts about the modern-day prophecies and a particularly upsetting Question From Readers article in their publications. Published in the 70s, it was regarding a wife who wondered if she could divorce her husband because he was having sex with men. The answer was that no, she couldn't, because he wasn't sleeping with women. Man, that really went against the grain with me. But, I stuck with the religion thinking that Jehovah would bring them new light on this subject, which he did.

After walking away from the religion, I am convinced that I was in a cult and brainwashed. So, I have come to doubt the religion as even being a religion. It's a money-making business cult.

    How's that?

Don't listen to the Pope, he's catholic.

The first responder was correct...this site is mostly x-jw's....

If you want answers to your questions start the bible study and have them come to your house, they will answer all you questions on the first visit. Afterward tell them what you are doing and dismiss them. They will go away slowly?

If they get to be a problem you can ask for an official statement, for none to call on your house, they will put on the territory map that your house is off limits and they will never bother you again except to clear up that you still live there about once a year?

I will try to answer your first question. A Jehovah's Witnesses is an individual that has accepted the teachings of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society and has devoted their entire life to the spreading of this information. They become babtized and attend several meetings each week and study the literature of WTBTS each day, they have goals for the field service, door to door work, that they participate in, approxiamately 8-10 hours a month.

Did I describe it accurately everyone??

    What is a Jehovah Witness?
We are people who serve Jehovah as taught by the Governing Body.

What made you decide to join the Jehovah Witnesses? The books written by the Governing Body.

Are you happy being a witness?
Yes, the Governing Body has the truth.

Why do you go door to door?
The Governing Body tells us to.

How often do you meet for services? Every day or as the Governing Body tells us to.

What is the significance of the number 144,000?
It is a number that the Governing Body knows is true.

Why do Witnesses refuse blood transfusions? The Governing Body tells us to.

Why do Witnesses refuse organ transplants?
The Governing Body used to tell us to but not anymore.

Are you allowed to serve in the military? No, the Governing Body says it is wrong.

    What is the WatchTower?
It is a magazine written by the Governing Body.

Why dont you celebrate holidays or birthdays?
The Governing Body says it is wrong.

Those were the easy questions. I almost hate asking these next few because I dont want to offend anyone and not have them answer the questions. So if I offend anyone with these next questions I sincerely apologize, I have to ask them because I read about these issues on the internet.

What is with the date 1975?

The Governing Body never said they were inspired.

    Who is Frederick W. Franz?
He is not on the Governing Body anymore.

    Does the WatchTower contradict itself?
No, it seems to, but the Governing Body says it does not.

Are you really shunned if you are thrown out?
The Governing Body doesn't actually throw anyone.

Are you allowed to study any version of the bible or do you have to use study guides?
The Governing Body studies for us and writes their words by divine directions.

Do you have doubts about this religion?
No, the Governing Body does not allow doubting.
