I like the way you tell us the whole story, personalities and all. Somehow your story illustrates how common our various 'work a days' are, no matter the location or field of endeavor.
It always feels good to be recognized, and to get more $ is just gravy on top.
Good 'brake' techs are more important than alignment any day. I remind myself that, everytime I step on the brakes.
Several years ago, I went to a local Midas store to get my pads changed. I always go out in the bay and check on the guy, and the work he is performing. When I did, I smelled booze on his breath. I immediately went to the manager, he had another guy check on the work. This drunk, had not done the job correctly, they redid everything. The guy was fired on the spot. Iam glad I was nosey.
