Well, there is an old saying that "you meet the devil at the crossroads." In view of such satanic connections, I would say, no, using crossroads would not be appropriate for True Christians (TM).
This means you cannot use the French supermarket Carrefour. How awful. No more trips to Calais for me.
It means I can't watch the British soap opera Crossroads. That's not so bad.
It means I can't watch the Brittany Spears Movie Crossroads either, I'm warming to this new light!
Hey Silly Boys,
get real.
1) the term "cross" meaning an intersection or even two intersecting lines has been used for a long long time and it is such a ridiculous notion to think that just because one rejects the use of THE CROSS representing the implement of Christ's death that there should be some basis to shun ALL things which also can be descriptively referred to as a cross
2) THE CROSS is our english word used by some to describe the implement of Christ's death, but the original greek does not use such a term, using "stauros" or "xylon" instead. Later latin translations used "crux" in some places the root from which our English "cross" is derived from. Again it is just silly, even in jest, to suggest that other ENGLISH words that include "cross" has anything to do with not wanting to include THE CROSS in one's worship.
3) the idea of meeting the devil at a crossroads is an old one indeed, particularly in the Southern U.S. The best known legend concerning such is the faustian deal that the blues great, Robert Johnson, supposedly made with the devil, exchanging his soul for talent and fame.
4) the hacked and god-awful movie "Crossroads" is a mangled retelling of the Robert Johnson legend.
5) Getting back to the cross thing and bringing in the debate about the calendar/days, it just goes to show that a reasonable person (Jehovah's Witness) can easily distinguish between those things that would constitute idolatry/false worship such as using a cross or praying to a cross in worship (or worship of Mars for example) and non-worship related incidental (such as having a calendar with March on it or filling out a "crossword" puzzle.

Gee, I really liked that movie. It was intended as fiction, being loosely based upon the Robert Johnson story.
a reasonable person (Jehovah's Witness) can easily distinguish between those things that would constitute idolatry/false worship such as using a cross or praying to a cross in worship (or worship of Mars for example) and non-worship related incidental (such as having a calendar with March on it or filling out a "crossword" puzzle.Unfortunately, Jehovah's Witnesses have been trained not to distinguish anything for themselves. The organization decides for them which "pagan" things are acceptable and which are not. If the Society came out tomorrow with an article banning crossword puzzles because of their association with the "pagan" cross, the JW's would obey in lockstep.
They use 'stakeroads' instead, don't they?
Edweirdo,

No shit? Where did you here this?
If you are of the Mindset that there was not a cross beam on the stake.....then you have a long way to go my friend. Perhaps you need to take a look at the book that the Organisation used and lied about to prove this point. You did know they lied about it didn't you?
You did know they misquoted the author of that books intention? The author of that book believed Jesus died on a cross. In that book the author showed various TYPES of execution and the society cherry picked the one he showed as mearly a stake. Why didn't they show the picture he used of the method HE BELIEVED Jesus died on and the quote he made concerning that method?
They didn't because they PURPOSELY lied to keep with their sick doctrine.
BTW....did you know the society said that Jesus may have died on a cross but that it wasn't important HOW he died....but that he died? You need to do some research pal before making dubbie statements that we have long ago dismissed as bullshit.
Good point of pun.
They probably shouldn't have calendars either, or pay attention to the movement of heavenly bodies.
And, they should never "play with time" by changing their clocks to daylight savings in the Spring, and then back again in the Fall. (Coming up this weekend folks)
