Very coincidental that you posted that. Just three minutes ago I was talking about that with my wife. I have a friend who retired in the last year or two from a federal govt job. He was only 54 or 55 when he retired. He is making more in retirement than my wife and I make together both working full-time. We have no prospects for retirement. I will probably literally have to work until I drop dead.
Government jobs are the best, they don't pay well up front but the benefits when you retire are awesome. A school teacher friend just retired at the age of 55. He will not collect 75% of his pay until he dies, when he hits 59( so not to be penalized by the irs), he will get a one time payout close to $200,000. This is what happens when you plan ahead for retirement!
Don Wallace explained that his and Arlene's parents survived the Great Depression and were taught not to waste money on frivolous things. So, they both decided to have a plan A and a plan B. Prepare that the End could come any day, and if it did not, have enough money to live on during their Golden Years. By the way, someone told that Arlene now about 86, is very ill and may not be alive for much longer. They are in Scottsboro AL.
