One thing about a QGR column, it makes people think that they COULD submit their queries and be paid attention to.

This would encourage a lot of befuddled witnesses to contact the society when something is really bugging them.

A fine result of that would be that the person at the WTS who READS any questions that come in could keep pretty good tabs on 'what's cooking' out there in the congregations.

Oh but wait. That would imply that their cunning and dishonest, wouldn't it?

Well, never mind about that, I guess.

    Right? right? rite?

Where exactly are you coming from Spanner....??? Wake up...the majority of Witnesses AREN'T in the USA, and sorry to burst your bubble, but the mags do have a sort of global distribution else they wouldn't be mentioned as the most widely circulated magazines. There is life outside the good ol USA you know!!

One has to wonder why two of the more explosive JW issues in the last several decades never appeared in QFR. I'm referring to the question about "this generation" ending before the turn of the 20th century when it was pretty clear that most of the 1914 generation had croaked a long time ago. I'm also referring to COJ's question and research about the society's claimed start of the Gentile Times in 607 BC.

When I was a dub the FIRST thing read by dubs in the WT was always the QFR. The society used that to issue "new light" in the form of new regulations, revised regulations, subregulations and sub-sub-regulations. Of course, these regulations in the QFRs were always stated to be "conscience" matters. However, after that was stated the society explained in detail what a "Christian's conscience" SHOULD be on the issue. Get it? "If your own conscience tells you that you don't need to follow our newest regulation, then you aren't a Christian."

    It's all bullshit, but it's "Bible-Based" bullshit.

With some of the ones reproduced on here from time to time, you get the impression that if they were a little more desperate and had a large nip of some stimulants you'd see these people on Jerry Springer.

I mean, reading them, I get the same sense of masochism behind them that would make a person go on the JS show. Mainly the more intimate questions.

Even sadder than that desperation would be the relief one felt that THE ANSWER had come down from the mountaintop and one's "conscience decision" had been made for you.

    ScoobySnax,

Where exactly are you coming from Spanner....??? Wake up...the majority of Witnesses AREN'T in the USA,

Sorry to prompt such an aggressive reply from you, ScoobySnax. Most reasonable people would see that, in my enthusiasm to get my point across, my terminology got a little inaccurate. As I am sure you are aware, what I meant was that there are more JWs in the States than in any other single country.

    And again,

and sorry to burst your bubble, but the mags do have a sort of global distribution

I don't really see why you felt you had to try and be "clever" here. The WBTS is in the Guinness Book Of Records for being the most prolific publishers in the world. From what I said above, it is obvious that I meant an "even" global distribution.

There is no need to apologise for "bursting my bubble", there wasn't a "bubble" to start with.

Since the QFR is so popular, I would imagine it serves another purpose as well.

It communicates that 'no one else is wondering about that' (whatever bit of cognitive dissonance the person is currently trying to wrap his mind around), 'so what's your problem?'

THIS is what you ought to be wondering about. THESE are the important questions.

Another Witness journey into intimidation by social pressure.

Re: Earthquake comment... lol@"without taking sides on the issue..."

What kind of help is a sign so general as "there will be earthquakes"? How can that possibly help a bible reader identify a specific time period when all time periods have been marked by earthquakes? What stupid reasoning coming from the "top".
