Yes -- I shared in the mid-term American elections. And my polling place was a big old Lutheran church -- yes, right there where Babylon the Great plays the whore to the politicians!! LOL

The process was very unintimidating, but the task of choosing who our leaders will be seemed heavy. Fortunately I searched the internet sites for the majority of the candidates and brought my little "checklist" with me so that I would remember for whom to vote.

The two biggest races are for US Senator -- as in who will replace the late Paul Wellstone: will it be his fellow democrat and ex-US Vice President Walter Mondale, or will it be the Republican candidate Norm Coleman? And who will replace ex-wrestler Jesse "The Body" Ventura as governor of the great state of Minnesota? Will it be someone from his "Independence" party, or will the voters return to the traditional Democratic or Republican parties?

I was glad to share in this exercise in representative democracy.

I didn't see any JW's there. I wonder if their consciences can permit them to vote? Or is that still a no-no here in the USA but okay in others?

I vote in every election and enjoy it myself. I am glad you took this step, it is a nice way of stepping into the real world and accepting our responsiblity as a citizen of the planet.

    Congratulations!

I have been voting since 1983, when I came to Virginia. It gives me a good feeling to know that I have that freedom.

Those who don't vote, aren't giving their opinion a chance to make a difference in our government. I always remember how the JW's complained about everything regarding the government, yet they were not allowed to vote.

We live in this world and have this freedom. Not everyone does.

    Good for you Gopher,

Not many realize that the governments are allowed to exist to keep law and order and as such serve the interests of Christ.

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

So we should all strive to make it the best government we can.

I just got back from voting for the first time as well. Most of it was just local except for congressman. Just about all my votes were just democrats except for the congressman because even though the republican is scary, he's less frightening than the democrat.

I have something in common with Jesus Christ -- I'm a first- time voter !!!

Pettygrudger, since you asked, here's exactly who I voted for:

US Senator -- Walter Mondale (Democratic Party)

US Representative -- Jim Ramstad (Republican Party)

State Senator -- David Gaither (Republican Party)

State Representative -- Wes Lindstrom (Democratic Party)

Governor/Lieutenant Governor -- Tim Penny and Martha Robertson (Independence Party)

Secretary of State -- Dean Alger (Independence Party)

State Auditor -- Patricia Anderson Awada (Republican Party)

Attorney General -- Tom Kelly (Republican Party)

County Commissioner -- Mark Stenglein (Nonpartisan)

County Sheriff -- Pat McGowan (Nonpartisan)

... and then there were a bunch of minor county officials and judges, but I won't bore you with the details.
