Congratulations, Gopher. Isn't it an awesome feeling to show your preference in leaders and have a say in the government?

Incidentally, I like seeing someone else who votes for who they figure is the best candidate and not just a party line. Good job.

Edited to add: Congratulations to Scarlet too.

Voting has become one of my favorite activities since I left. After years of parroting to folks what good citizens the witnesses were, I actually get to be one now.

    Gopher,

I hope you used your feet!

    seriously....

That must have felt wonderful. FREEDOM!! LET IT RING!! That's the second thing I did when I left the borg at the age of 18.

Pretty good choices on who your voted for too! Most of them anyway.

    peace.

    Yup I voted today too..

It was liberating. I have always loved following debates and finding out which canidates fueled my fire with their stupidity. Good times! My parents would always listen to me rant about politics and then say "But it's nice to know it doesn't matter, and only Jehovah can make it better" To which I had to pretend that was a satisfactory answer. GOD! For a system of people who relies so heavily on the government to save their asses on blood issues, and over turning soliciting rules, you'd think they'd care a bit more about who was in office, to make their lives a little easier. Hell they might want to consider having their own party.

And when Jesse was up for election, I just couldn't NOT vote. So this was actually my third time voting.

My parents would be so un-proud.

My aunt was at the polling place. I almost didn't vote cuz I didn't want her to say anything to my parents. She was so pleased to see me tho. I think it shocked the hell out of her.

Oh well, if she does tell them, I can just say "don't worry mom and dad, I "threw" away my votes on all the dark horse politicians and lower parties...people who don't have a chance! It's all good! I didn nothing to help the civic process" Hee hee!

I voted for the first time in twenty years today! Minnesota is cool in that you can register on the same day as elections.... it felt weird, but good!

I LOVED Paul Wellstone.... sob.... I didn't know a lot of the other people on the ballots, so I just used the same techniques I used when choosing wine (if it has a pretty butterfly on the label, it must be good and I wrote in the Green party guy on a lot of the other things.

I'm still wearing my "I voted" sticker

    love, laura

Thanks all for chiming in. "My parents would be so unproud" -- mine too! But since they won't talk to me, I guess what they know won't hurt them.

Laura -- they didn't pass out "I voted" stickers at my precinct!! What's up with that? But we should have had a little pre-election chat -- we could have gotten you a little more information on the candidates over in your "neck of the woods". OH WELL, my offer stands for 2004.

I got a sample ballot for my area on the Internet -- but it was missing the candidates for mayor of the suburb where I live (plus one other suburban official), and also did not show a referendum regarding a county water and soil conservation bureau. Oh well, even the internet isn't perfect. But I was caught off guard and had to use your "whose name sounds nice" approach in a few cases.
