I bought myself flowers today

Friday Fluff after a rather heated exchange on another thread...time to lighten up a bit.

I work hard for my money (as the song goes) and don't have much left over after a mortgage payment, car & insurance payments, and utilities. I'm lucky to have no real debt; I keep my life simple and I learned to be frugal while living with a compulsive spender.

My one luxury allowance - fresh flowers. When summer is over, and I can no longer pick a bouquet of assorted roses from my garden, I indulge myself in a few fresh flowers. Right now, there is a vase of Calla lilies on my mantle, and a bunch of purple iris on a table in my bedroom. It's a completely unnecessary expenditure and I'll have to throw them out within a week. But they make me smile when I look at them or smell them and it brings a bit of life to the indoors during the cold, dark days.

What do you spend money on that you shouldn't? What guilty pleasure do you indulge in?

    Chocolate,

I also buy flowers for the table, picking a bouquet in the summer and buying them in the winter, I love seeing reds, yellows and purples in the white of winter.

Remember J.Peterman, Elaine's boss on Seinfeld?

I ordered a Gibson Girl blouse from the the real J.Peterman.

I shouldn't have, but it was just too beautiful to resist....

I am very drawn to anything that is even slightly Victorian-looking...

That's the latest thing that I spent money on that I shouldn't have....

    Good for you Wasa!

I sometimes buy myself flowers, especially if I need a bit of cheering up. They add a bit of life to the place, eh?

I also like to buy candles sometimes too. They too don't last forever, but they can add a bit of atmosphere to the place, as well as being very romantic!

I second imanaliento...Chocolate! Just went to the Drug Emporium and bought bags of leftover halloween candy for a buck each! Needed some chocolate tonight after a depressing day. Chocolate and a nice glass of wine, yum!

Wasa, I love calla lillies! But I would never indulge myself. In fact, when you asked the question I couldn't think of a single thing that I indulge myself in. It's pretty depressing. I'm going to indulge in something tomorrow and let you know. Thanks for the lighthearted post.

    Hey Wasa

How are things with you? You're one of the people that I seemed to have lost touch with, and I miss ya.

What do I indulge in? Books. Hands down, I spend money on books. I do have a library card, but there's just something about owning my books. I do share them with my sister, for the most part , but I buy them, I read them, and I hang onto them, which is rapidly becoming a problem because my house is rather small, I have no bookshelves, and the closets are getting full.
