The November 11 Holiday is not managed very well is it? Memorial Day is not either.

Many business do give all employees the day off on Nov 11 to honor Veterans. It saddens me to observe how many empty cemetaries there are, with only a few taking the time to reflect on the sacrifices of those who gave so we might enjoy freedom.

In my opinion, all Veterans of military service should be given a day off. And any of us who enjoy the holiday should take a half hour out of our day to observe one of the many graveside ceremonies conducted through out the US.

Even if you we are not blessed with a day off, take a moment at 11 a.m. to reflect on the men and women who have served to protect your right to be at that job and spout off about not haviing the day off.

Lucy--Were I say you "wanted" day off? "YOU" was an editorial "you' and not meant to reflect on you in any fashion. Sorry, If I upest you in any way. I intended to observe the fact that many Americans fell "entitlement" regarding a day off-never understanding what that day represents.

Animal's opinion is shared by many Veterans that I know; especially Combat vets who "did what they had to do" and would like to forget.

As a veteren, I prefer to work and make money rather than take off.

We have generations of people that demand something for nothing, like days off work with pay. I am a firm believer in getting paid for what I work, or paying people only for what they work.

Your response to Pomagrante: Come on Lucy, you sound like you need to take a breath. I dont think anybody has disrespected or implied that that your opinion is wrong. I am way past combat age and not a military veteran but I, Lucy, will be among the first to use whatever means are availble to me, in an effort to protect your RIGHT to an opinion.

Pomagrante; ohh...really!!! I did not know that!!!Come on now ...you can't tell there is not one thing that irks you about this country or are you too afraid to express your opinons? Or are you just blind or stupid? Mr.Rogers says ;Can you say "Herd Mentality"?

cleaned up some stuff in my cut and paste

I agree with the both or you,we do have it better in our countries, but there is a lot of crap going on here that needs to be fixed as well.

I have a disabled son,and the goverenment doesn't do much for his type of disability, saying they have no money...but on the other hand they are quick to help other people in other countries. blah blah

"Coronerberst - where did you get all your information from?"

Does it really matter if the info is even true? Those that focus on the negative only believe the negative. Generations of negativity against our country has generated a minority of people that dislike living in the USA, yet wont leave for the greener grass.

Conoroberst-- exactly what ARE You doing to make things better? Did you vote last week? Did you go to a town council meeting? Did you work with "Big Brothers" of some other charitable group?

Exactly how much time have you spent in other countries, Conoroberst? NONE? Do yourself a favor head down to Mexico or Hati or the Dominican Republic. Get off the tourist strip and wander around a day or two.

"Oh, that's the third world"-- well head off to "number 2" for a awile.. have you been in a European airport? The "cops" are Federal Military in most of Europe. Those civilians are monitered by a standing army and are very limited in the exercise of any personal freedom... and thats in the counrtries that are "democratic".

Like so many other holidays, Veterans Day has become "just another day off". If you are working, take the time to attend a ceremony before or after work. If you have the day off, go to the local parade. Show support for those who sacrificed more than most of us could ever imagine. And should you find yourself in Washington, Cambridge, UK, or Normandy in the future, look at those neat little rows of stones or names on the wall. Understand that each of those represent someone who's life was cut short in service to their country. It doesn't matter whether in a "good war" or not. When called, they went. And some didn't return. Those that did come home weren't the same again. This may sound like patriotic rhetoric to some, but I feel we owe a tremendous debt to those who served. Honor them in your own way tomorrow, but appreciate their sacrifice every day.

    Conroberst-

If you are a US citizen- Should you be unhappy with something, work to change it. Expressing your opinion and sitting on your ass waiting for someone else to do the hard work doesn't count.

And should you be a citizen of one of the countries that my tax dollars and service people have assisted over the years- you're welcome. Please feel free to pass right by the next time your country needs financial, humanitarian, or military assistance.

    Hi LuckyLucy:

My kids don't have off tomorrow either.

I am not a vet. So, I can only give my opinion based on being a civilian. If I was given the chance to live any where on this planet, I choose America. Not because the streets are paved with Gold, or this is the land of endless opportunities, but because here is where I was born. I like the customs of the land where I live. My family is here. I choose to take the good with the bad. It will be the same no matter where you live. Some places better than others. Life is what we make of it. If we don't like our situation, we have the choice to change it. There is not a country on this planet that will satisfy every need of its inhabitants. Yes, we should vote and stand up and fight for our beliefs. But, don't be surprised if you don't get everything you ask for.

There was a veterans ceremony in our town yesterday. This is a quote from Sgt. Maj. Ret. Dick Pinter. "More than 48 million have stepped forward to defend their land, more than a million have died and, more than a million and a half have been wounded. We can never adequately repay them, but we can honor and respect them and their family members for their service to their country." There were veterans at this ceremony who have lost much in defending the right to choose where you would like to live, what you do with the freedom in our country today. I for one, would not be the one who would walk up to the man who has lost both of his legs in war, and tell him that "Veterans Day is a Bunch of Crap!"

    Have a nice day,

    Mrs. Shakita
