Where Have All The Pretty Women Gone?

Tell ya what, I'd almost kill to be about 15-20 or so years younger. To me, women look better than ever. The hairstyles are better than when I was a teen in the 70s. The low-ride jeans they wear look awesome. Top that off with a navel piercing and (maybe) a well-placed tatoo, and I am jelly. And also, I know several women and have seen others who look great as they age.....you know, the whole fine wine thing. And there are some lookers who post pics here, both younger and a bit more mature.

Also, is it me, or are they built better than ever? Some say it's the stuff in the food, I don't know. TIME magazine even ran an article on it a few months back.

When I was on vacation recently, I saw a lot of great-looking women, and yep, many of them were with pretty darn average looking saps. I think the dearth of good looks is in the man department.

They have gone to various boutiques and stores to purchase shoes that don't make their toes or heels hurt, make them have foot problems later in life so they can't walk -- and saved themselves the aggravating pisode of learning to walk on stilts; birkenstocks, tennis shoes, or just gone plain barefoot. They have gone to purchase slim line undergarmets so that they aren't strangled and pinched, bruised, or bunched around by girdles, whale-bone corsettes, and torpedo bras. Do you know that lots of girls passed out in the old days cuz they were trying to contain themselves in those corsettes to appeal to their men? Passed out cuz they strangled themselves alive. They have saved their faces from the ravages of costmetics which often contain LIME, and the time to put on those faces they have shared with those who loved them. They have also saved themselves from the constrictions put on them by clothing, makeup, and beauty "trends" enforced on them by a hoarde of media representations. They have taken up exercise, fresh air, freedom, health, and good eating to show that beauty is not "put on" but comes from .. truly.. the inside.

Aren't you glad that woman don't have to be so uncomfortable to look gorgeous these days? True beauty is natural and cannot be outmoded, true beauty is free of pain. True beauty is when the most natural looking person in the world comes up to you and tells you they love you. And to know that the person you love, and the person that loves you, is free of the pain that a world puts on them.

    Just my opinion.

Well, here is where I can now be accused of being phony. For those of you who read this and think I am as phony as this will sound...one of the most attractive women I have ever met had been hideously scarred from head to toe in a house fire.

Anybody who knows me knows I am very fussy about a lady's looks for what I find attractive. But what really draws me is her heart, her intellect and her soul. And I am very fussy about those.

I freely admit to being weird on this issue. I am probably the only male who can look through a Victoria's Secret catalog and not be impressed. Windrider tested me on that. I told her that the women were obviously beautiful, but their looks didn't interest me. And I didn't know why. So she had me point out any that interested me. I found one. She looked at the model and immediately told me why that lady's looks attracted me when the others didn't. She was right. Those who know me well enough will know why.

Englishman, maybe it is where you live. Different cities make a big difference.

Seattle doesn't have a lot of women, but most are quite good-looking.

Downtown Ottawa abounds with beautiful women. So many that employers had adopted a disgusting employment practice. Hiring only very competent but drop-dead gorgeous women. This practice is delibrate. I enjoy eyecandy as much as any man, but I don't think looks should be a hiring requirement for most jobs. Except for a few firms, this practice did not apply to men. The good old double standard at work again.

I lived in Carleton Place, Ontario. Full of really nice people as long as you didn't piss them off. I swear they had an Ugly convention there at one time and nobody went home. Both the men and women were ugly. The whole time I lived there, I only saw two beautiful women...and one of them was my wife. A co-worker who lived there confirmed this...he made a similar comment out of the blue.

Where I live now I call Ugly Central. If you lived here you would know why.

Richard, who is not as phony as this sounds class.

    Maybe I'm just getting older..sigh.

    Yup!

The ideals of what constitutes beauty shift just as fast as the Cosmopolitan magazines in the grocery store.

I agree Joanna. Sometimes when I see the girls from the '50's with the big beehive hair, the puff skirts and the ballet shoes, I just want to know "what the heck were they thinking". But I guess the guys back then thought they were beautiful. Go figure.

Hmmm, I'm an old fart too but I find today's women more beautiful than ever. I think a lot has to do with the fitness craze. Nothing like a nice flat tummy.

Inner beauty, yep you fall in love with that for sure. But outter beauty is what I notice on the beach.

Wait a minute, you're in the UK? Last I knew there weren't any in the UK. Aren't Brit women known for their snaggleteeth?

One of my favourite movie quotes:

"Dad, is it true that real beauty is what a person is like inside?"

"No son, that's just something ugly people say"

    Jim Carey - Liar, Liar

There are some stunning women about. The view from my desk at work is much improved since we had a re-org. I'm not saying any more (or getting much work done either)

Ok ... now let the thread die and with any luck, Angharad won't see it and I'll live to the weekend
