I was walking from my house to town and my step-son's mother in law had picked up my grand-daughter from school. My 8 yr old grandaughter opened the window and said,"You want a ride with two pretty women?" I nearly cracked up laughing.

Awww Simon,
What a sweet story And Angharad's comment made me LOL . I know what you mean tho. Last week, I took the kids to a fall carnival and we ran into a friend of Delaney's from school. I was "Delaney's mom" and the friend's father was "Cory's dad" the rest of the evening. Come to think of it, we never did exchange our names LOL
It's cool tho isn't it? You're anchored in space because you're Dylan's and Liam's dad; anchored in a different space because you're Harry's hubby, too, but it's not the same realm as the one you inhabit solely because you're a dad. And just think, that tether that links you to them both now is short and, as they grow, it will stretch and grow longer but it will ALWAYS be there, always connecting you. Isn't being a parent wonderful?

I know just what you mean, Simon. My little girl spent the first six years of her life in my lap. I told her the other day that I would give up my entire kingdom to have her be four again and in my lap for one day.
I was able to bridge the gap without having any more children after my first two. Now my little girl is about to present me with my first grandchild, a boy, in February. I've been told grandchildren are great. I can't wait to see.

Simon,
I don't have any kids and I'm not married. Your story was soo sweet, makes me think about what it would be like to have little rugrats!! LOL
I also get that way when I see little kid clothes!!!
Simon.
Take heart old son, I have four, my youngest(stepson) is 17, BUT I have TWO grandchildren, Savannah (3) and Cammeron (11 mths). So as you can see, it all starts again !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Being ' Grandad ' is as much fun as being ' dad ' with the advantage that you can give them back when you are tired !
The fun is just beginning old sport !

LOL at Mac,,,,,,,,,,,, heheh, you sure you arent from Louisiana????
Seriously Simon and Ang. you must have 3 kids to really have a taste of what true anxiety, ,,, I mean family... errr ,, ummm.. is all about. My middle child is a girl and let me tell you ,,,,,,,, well lets just say ,,,,,,,,,, have one of those little angels and see for yourself. Yeah they are beautiful , hair of golden ringlets, dimples and cute dresses,,,,,,,,,, but don't be fooled!!!!!!!!hehhehe.
Honestly having a girl and my boys is the way I wanted it to be,,,,,, actually if I could I would have liked to have one more girl. They all make life worth living.
we never did exchange our names LOL
This is so true, I met the mother of this little girl months ago before the kids had started school at a pre-school playgroup where they mothers stay with the kids, we had been getting to know each other and talking for weeks, when one day we realized that we didnt even know each others name only that we are Dylan & Alice's mums!

LOL I can imagine - ours kids are great but some days they drive me nuts! Liam the oldest (5 1/2) told me the other day 'You should have another baby, but make it a girl one this time'! So he has decided that he wants a sister too.
