Disturbances at Assemblies

I remember hearing over and over about how wonderful it was to be gathered together at the assemblies, and how the brotherly love flowed, and everyone got along.

They would comment that where else could you get 10,000 and more people together where there was so much peace and unity.

We were flat out told there was NO WHERE that this occured. That wordly people could never have that many people together, then riots would happen, fights, drunken idiots etc.

Well, I have been to many busines seminars, where there are thousands of people, and they never get out of hand. I have been to many concerts with thousands of people there, and they don't get out of hand.

How egotistical these power witnesses are to think they are the only ones that can get along peacefully.

I know there are cases of fights, or something at large events, but there has been things like that at assemblies too.

Has anyone here seen fights, or disturbances at assemblies, or large witness gatherings? What happened?

I think that the factor that creates most disturbances at large gatherings is: Overindulgence in Alcohol.

At gatherings where that is controlled or forbidden, people are fairly calm.

Certain types of musical concerts or sporting events seem to have the most problems.

I haven't seen many disturbances at assemblies. Usually it is between WTS security and "apostates" where the brothers have overreached their authority. Mostly loud talking.

At assemblies, most JWs are just so bored out of their minds that they are on the verge of being in a coma. That's the real reason there aren't any disturbances.

Can you think of any other large gathering where the punishment for misbehaving is the loss of everyone you love? Including your family?

LOL! I like that. Yes, they are barely above the coma state, no rowdyness there.

The funny thing is, I knew of many of the young JW that would become quite rowdy the nights after each assembly day.

Oh, yeah! Hit the clubs to watch live music and pound several pints. That's what most 'hovahs I knew did.

How about the World Trade Towers and 9-11 as a large gathering - in which many ordinary
WORLDLY PEOPLE performed acts of selflessness and bravery - while Witnesses closed the
shades and tried to exploit the suffering of the living with Armageddon preaching?

I had a fight in the women's bathroom with my Dad's wife( she is NOT my stepmother lol).

I can't even remember all the details but she was always mouthing off in rude ways about everything. She always thought she was a little better than everyone, no alot better. She is just awful.

This day she went too far and said something about my little girl........ seems like my little girl who was about 2 at the time, hit her daughter, my half sister, kid stuff you know. Her daugher is like 2 1/2 yrs older than mine, and I am not sure what happened I wasnt there. My dad had my daughter, when it happened. When I got her back to me, my dad didnt say anything happened.

Later I took her to the bathroom and that is where my dad's wife was, and she started some talk about it. I told her I didnt know and I am sorry my daughter hit hers and after all she is just 2 yrs old, and not worry to much about what a baby does,,,etc. etc. and i told my little half sister , that my daughter likes to see her and gets a little wild , but sorry she hit her too. She was fine with that.

BUt not the new wife........ she was talking so loud about it in the bathroom and wouldnt let it go. She kept at it and made it into a big deal. I tried to be nice and make it better, but she kept on.

I stood there in front of about 20 sisters and proceeded to tell her the hell off. My voice got loud, I got red, I got mad, and I walked up to her and warned her to shut her mouth or ELES. All the sisters in the bathroom were standing there with their mouths open in shock. But I bet they were glad I stood up to her and told her off,,,,,,, she was rude to everyone,,,,,,, especially the poor friends, so no one liked her either.

Later on , everyone heard about it and told me they wish I would have punched her right there and then. I never got any counsel or heard anything from it.

I have seen people fight at JW assemblies. One notable fight at Yankee Stadium back in 1988 involved 2 sisters who were fighting over seats. One sister had 'reserved' a bunch of seats by putting watchtower mags on the seats. The other sister came and saw that no one was sitting in these seats and proceeded to remove the mags. They started arguing and the fight actually got to the point where they started punching each other. An attendant had to come and break it up.

And over the years I have witnessed similar fights at jw assemblies.
