Not everything can be explained with common sense. Some things are simply unexplainable. Maybe at some point in the future we will know the final real deal.

Even a dog can control is instinct to eat or have sex, if properly trained.
Yeah, if you neuter him.
Please get a clue. Puts Julien on ignore.

Yes survival is an instinct, procreation is also an instinct. I don't know where you are getting this idea that sex/procreation is not an instinct.

Dogs cannot comprehend the abstract concept of future. A human would simply eat first knowing he was going to have a good shag later.

Julien, Julien,
Let's say a person is on a hunger strike. His/her demands are met. When given the choice between a cup of broth and sex, which will they choose? I don't see why you can't understand. Yes, we can control our desire to live. But it takes a much bigger effort to do that than to decide to forego sex.
Can we at least agree on the above? I did not come here tonight to argue with you.

As I said before different instincts are present at different levels of intensity depending on circumstance.. Most of them can be suppressed to one degree or another. Not many people could commit suicide by jumping in a pool and inhaling water. And of course we can suppress out procreation instinct indefinitely much easier than we can suppress our instinct to eat, because without food we will die. Without sex we can still live. That doesn't mean sex is not an instinct. Consult any psychology text and you will see that sex/procreation is one of humans' instincts.

Julien,
I have consulted psychology sources--while I was in college. Now, if there has been "new light" on the subject, I have yet to read it.

Well my wife has a master's degree in psychology and she disagrees with you too. neener neener.

Julien,
Neener, Neener? Oh my, your debating skills are as remarkable as your reasoning ability.
Put your wife on the forum. I want to hear this directly from her. I want to see why she agrees with you. I want her facts expressed in clear, concise, psychological terms. I want her to list her research sources, I also want to know where she got her masters and what her GPA was. I would also like to know the year that she got her masters.
