Blonde is correct on those points.

Bacteria and some parasites cannot be seen by the naked eye. Also, in a lot of nitrate complaints that I have worked on (which can cause blue baby syndrome if elevated) the water is very clear. Thus, it is always important to sample water for bacteriologcal and chemical parameters and if necessary add the appropriate treatment system and properly maintain the treatment system.

In Ontario we have lived through some very serious (optically too) contaminations involving bacteriological parameters in well water. The Town of Walketon's municipal well system is the most famous because of the press coverage but I actually was assigned a worse one in 1994/1995 that I cannot discuss here. The kids and adults that I knew who died in that one and all because a private operator (who had bags of money) ignored the system.

On a side bar, blondie, all water in Ontario's Provinical Parks must be treated for drinking and bathing. Frequent sampling occurs. The Medical Officer of Health will post signs everywhere if the water is not fit for human consumption or bathing.

Hawkaw, this was in Banff National Park, where the moose and elk and bear roam free, usually upstream.

    Hi blondie,

That park is run by the federal government and I know very little about how they operate it.

However, I am very disappointed in hearing that news. "Beaver fever" as you probably heard it called is extremely danagerous out west never mind all the other bacteriological problems.

Anyway if you are interested or need any information (even though it seems your knowledge level is way up) with groundwater, water wells or basic hydrogeology please feel free to post a message.

    LyinEyes,

Yeah but -- that "life's water" has not been treated properly. It contains specks of feces and other contaminants. It's best to stay away from their "water of life".

Those of us who have been "put out" from their pseudo-paradise are prohibited from drinking that yucky stuff. Isn't that sad?
