We had 16 people over. 17 if my older son had stuck around. But we got into it. He started whining about how we don't support him with his choices. I told him that until he can support his daughter with a check the first of every month I won't support him. He asked if I wanted him to "f"ing leave and I told him that would be wise.

I honestly am not a fan of holidays. I think all too often they bring out the worst in people.

But I'm grateful for the choice to be able to celebrate them, if I choose.

Each T day is special for me. For instance, this afternoon my dad and I had a good conversation about politics, military, and religion. He's a retired Navy man, and is very knowledgable about history, war, politics, etc. I got the chance to update him on the latest 'hovah scandals including the molestation issues. He's very conservative, but was never religious. My mom and dad had very little religion in their lives, and that's how we were brought up. My dad can't stand religious people telling him how he should believe. Conservative and non-religious. I guess that's where I get it from. LOL!

Anyhoo, I look forward to our get togethers for good conversation.

Wow Dede! That's so wonderful! I'm really happy for you.

By the way, is there supposed to be a comma in your subject header. Is that supposed to be "Tell your Thanksgiving stories today." or "Tell your Thanksgiving stories, today." ???

I too do something similar, but it is more of a private matter. I reflect on all of the things I'm happy and thankful for.

In the past we have delivered Meals-on-Wheels to help the shut-ins in Portland so they could have a nice Thanksgiving. We have also visited people in the hospital. We have donated to soup kitchens too. Portland has quite a homeless population.

One of the best dinners was when we went to a Thanksgiving dinner in a Mexican restaurant in Salem provided for a lot of people who had also been disowned by their families. They were the gay and lesbian members of a church for the disenfranchised where we attended for a while. The owner of the restaurant was Patty, a Mexican lady whose mother used to be a hairdresser in San Francisco. She worked with several gay people and so Patty grew up with lots of gay friends. So on Thanksgiving, she arranged with the church to do this for those without a place to go. I even met an xJW there that I knew years ago with ties to the Stayton, Oregon congregation.

Oh, BTW, I almost forgot to mention this. Tonight my husband was getting hungry (I can't possibly see how) so I fixed him a turkey sandwich. I asked him if he wanted two? He replied, "I'll have one and if I want another, I'll have pie!"

I was hoping someone would post a thread about this! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday...even more so than Christmas!

Well, Mozzer and I started our day at 7 am. For years, our church has been packing styrofoam boxes of food for the homeless and we partner with another church that delivers the boxes to shelters and homeless people around town. It was an early morning for sure, but one that was perfect. Packing boxes of food for people who haven't eaten for days is a great way to start off a thankful day! Our Sunday School class has participated for several years and it's always wonderful to see so many people wake up early and give instead of take on a personal family holiday.

Then we napped late in the morning and went over to Mozzer's family's house. It was a small crowd since one of his sisters and her family were spending the day with her husband's side of the family. But we ate turkey, stuffing, hot bread, candies yams (with marshmallows! YUM!), mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and tons of pie. I think I committed one of the deadly sins of gluttony. I tell myself every holiday I won't do it, but I do. Anyways, it was a great day of giving thanks for our wonderful lives and the tons of blessings we experience every day. As tough as Neil and I have it now, with me having such a crummy job, it's easy to get overwhelmed with the bad in life. But really we have it good. A wonderful loving family (his!) and tons of friends (y'all!) and we eat well everyday. I should never complain again!

I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving too!

Hung christmas lights most of the morning, the large christmas lights, with painted colors, not the little icicle kind. Set the timer's for 5:00pm.

We are the first in our community of about 135 homes to have them up. Usually I cook a big feast, but this year the family was spread out, visiting in various locations, so we went out.

A local winery offerd a full course dinner with all the trim..........it was grand, along with 2 bottles of pinot grigio, 1 of Edna Valley Chardonay, and finished with a bottle of Dusi vineyards Zinfandel, to accompany creamed pumkin pie, with apple tart, and double chocolate cake.

We finished the evening at a local tavern, with several Jack Daniel's on the rocks.................. so yes I had a very good 'thanksgiving day'............now I don't know how the morning will be, but there is always plenty of Alka Seltzer in the cupboard.

    Happy Thanksgiving all.

We had a great day, and I didn't eat too much. I was so busy, I wondered later if I actually ate. But I did. We had 14 at two tables and only two of our 4 kids came, with one of the seven grandkids. The others went to in laws, and one son's wife had to work, and the other wanted to be with her family, but my son came. (this is the fallout for not having celebrated holidays in the past...............getting the kid's mates to adjust to needing to rotate)

We had us, my Dad, (Mom stayed downstairs.........good little dub), two of our sons, and a two year old, two nieces, and a husband of one, my cousin Sharon's son who still lives in the area, my brother (a widower), and Makena and Sabine and their son. It was great. My husband's niece (Inky here) brought us a tiny decorated Christmas tree. That was when Mom went downstairs. Her loss. We laughed about it..........but our niece felt bad. Mom had told us she wasn't going to eat with us anyway. We had two df'd or da'd people, one of them is her son, that she has never shunned in 13 years!! How shocking!!

We had turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, home made cranberry sauce, brocolli, carrots and snow peas (hardly touched), dressing, pumpkin pie, sweet potatoe pie both with whipped cream. Makena and Sabine brought the wine, and cigars. I passed on those, not that I was invited to have one. Before dinner we had some appetizers, marinated shrimp, smoked salmon, tiny bagels, and cream cheese with champagne and wine.

Just before we ate, I asked if we were going to have a prayer. My husband said "I don't know what I would say, to represent this group." It was hilarious, considering the conversations that had been going on for an hour before dinner. So my brother, who is a semi atheist, jumped in and said he had one: "Thank you Buddah for the food-a". Then we dove into the food.

I got this email from my brother this morning:
Wow, what a great dinner, and on top of it I was able to be with some of the people I love most.

In part, it was because of exceptional individuals like Makena, Sabine and their son (he used their names) that I was able to be in that awful cult for as long as I was. I kept thinking, then, that I would never find such good people outside, how wrong I was. Thanks for having them be with us, I am very glad that we met.

Thanks again for a wonderful day, appreciated more than I can say.

Then for desert we had pecan pie, pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie with Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream or real whipped cream!

    Oh man it as great!

My sis and her whole family flew up from Florida. First thing we took the Floridians out on the frozen ice. (My dad and I both fell down, and we're the natives!!) The ice cracked once and I have never seen a florida boy run so fast!

My nephew cried the first time he saw his winter coat. He ran away from my sister three time screaming NOOOOO! And then once he was all bundled up he had trouble walking. He fell down once, and sort of just lay there grunting, unable to move. It was hysterical!

We ate a 24 pound turkey. The stuffing was fantastic. And I think we had more desserts than we did side dishes.

My grandma, aunt, and uncle all came over.

We took a long walk in the woods after dinner, and took lots of pics (I already got them developed, I will have to post them later)

My nephew is talking up a storm. It's so sweet!

We went down to the lake had a bonfire and shot off fireworks. Then we came in and watched movies and played with my nephew.

Today more aunts and uncles came down to visit us. A handful of little cousins all running around in the house now bumping into each other.

This has easily been the BEST THANKSGIVING EVER!!

I am so unbelievably happy today!!
