Welcome NEW GUY! Certainly your thoughts and expressions are always desired.
That is exactly what happened to me. I was raised a JW but drifted away during my teen years. Then, when I was 20 years old (1988), I was told to get baptized. These are the exact words : "You'd better get baptized in order to receive the 'mark' so you won't die at Armageddon". Yes, it was the fear-factor. Armageddon always left an inprint in my mind since I was a child. Then I started to hear from my JW family members and friends about current world events making such drastic changes that the "END" was obviously very near. So, basically, my service and dedication to Jehovah was out of morbid fear instead of love. [As detailed within my personal profile].
This site along with others has helped me take positive steps in my life. Now I'm doing the "submerge" from the WT Society because I need to find my own identity in order to serve God entirely (Mark 12:30).
Looking forward to your future posts!

Yum yum Chicken Lips I am glad you live in Australia or I would probably be jumping all over you to see if you really had CL. Well just kidding and welcome to the board.
I was in the org for 38yr and yes when Armaggedon is pounded into you everyday of your life yes I'd say you develop fear. The org. wants to feed on your fear as your parents want you to fear. So you'll be obedient. Yes when I left the org. I must admit I was afraid God would zap me right then and there. I literally had pains around my heart. I thought some days I was going to have a heat attack. But I had a doctor and a therapist who talked me through my fears. And finally I was able to come to grips with it. It is terrible to live with such fear. It is part of the mind control the society has over its subjects. I am glad to say I do not fear armaggedon and even if it were to comes I don't care. I will take my chances with God then the JWs any day of the week. I wish I could undo the years I was brain washed in the org. but I can't but I sure as hell can live the rest of my life free as God intended us to live. Good Luck to you Chicken Lips and may you find the inner peace you seek.
Don't be afraid to seek help, it just shows your human.
All the best

Fear... yes, there is lots of that at first. You will find, hopefully as I did, that this place will help with that, a great deal.

Hi C.L. - love the name.... and WELCOME...
I'm one of the few 'never-been-a-dub' s here. I'm going to throw out this question to you and others, and I'm not trying to be flip, really, I only want to understand. Why do dubs think they have a corner on the Armageddon market? meaning... I'm a Christain, know the scriptures fairly well, I understand about Armageddon, but why do the dubs think they're the only ones going to be here after the big 'A'? Most Christians believe that there will be rough times ahead leading up to Christ's Second Coming, but Almighty God didn't create a world to see it completely fall apart.... Armageddon is just a precurser to an event and will be totally survivable for most of the world.
Ok... what gives?

Hi Chicken Lips and welcome!
Your ID name made me chuckle..... when my children were little and we'd try to get them to smile for the camera...... you know how people say "Say CHEESE!!"?? Well, it didn't work on my lot, so we'd tell them to "Say CHICKEN LIPS" and it would break them out in giggles every time. We got a lot of great pictures that way.
Love, Scully

CL my fine feathered friend!
I suggest you take a long hard look at the doctrin of "armegeddon". If you take away the Dubby spin, me thinks your fears will melt away. No religion is worth its salt if it results in fear and hate as its main motivator. Just the antithesis of the message of the Master!
