Out of town for work
Have contagious illness (measles, strep throat, flu)
Child is ill and must stay home with them
Went to another congregation or plan on making it up at another congregation (great for CO visit)
On vacation
Family emergency (older non JW parent had to go to urgent clinic)
Pipe burst in house had to wait for plumber
Furnace out (had to wait for furnace man, wintertime)
Allergic to new carpet and paint
Allergic to perfume Sister Stinks-A-Lot insists on wearing
Mandatory over time at work
Had finals that week at the university
Car broke down just as you left for the meeting (battery is a good one)
Non JW-family not seen for a long time from out of town dropped in unexpectedly for only 2 days
Non-JW husband took the only car at the last minute (too late to get a ride)
When i was a kid, sickness always worked,
When i grew up, working late on purpose did the trick.
Sickness
School work
and once a month got to use the womany one
I never gave any excuses. I felt that I was free to go or not. If you start giving excuses, then you will always have to justify yourself when you don't go.
Elvis died.
...excuses? you mean, you could do that? who knew? in our house there were no excuses. you could be barfing up a lung and still had to go...
Sickness...........kids are always bringing some illness home from school.
The sister I studied with was "concerned" because I missed a meeting. I told her that I had a long, hard day and couldn't make it. She brings over at our next study a bunch of articles dealing with appreciating the meetings. Listen, I had kids of my own, plus in-home day care, when I had a long, hard day....I meant it.... and, don't mess with me. She goes on to describe dirt poor women who walk 20 miles in horrible conditions with their 13 children just to make a meeting at the kingdom hall! I was stunned. I told this sister that if I needed a day off, I would take one. I guess I never was very good at listening to retarded advice.
