yes. There seems to be a degree of conflicting information as to what happens in Scientology "auditing" . perhaps the methods vary depending on which "course" you are doing. But as I understand it your very first lesson after you sign up you have to sit staring into your "auditors" eyes without blinking or looking away or registering any emotion. I donrt know if anyone has ever tried anything like that . Staring at one point continuously can induce all kinds of wierd hallucinations. Ive stared at people in that manner and seen them "shapeshift" , change appearance, and turn into demons. Try it sometime. And thats just the first lesson!. After that they start to mess with your mind!

    Prisca,

Fair question. Scientologists, even at the upper levels, are gossipy. Kinda like those other cult members we left behind.

Some of my comments concerning John Travolta I read in Time Magazine, which I still have, and a couple of other news articles years ago. If you hunt around on the net, I'm sure the Time article that mentions Travolta is available at some anti-Scientology site. It was the cover story and the article was entitled "Scientology: The Cult of Greed." Time was sued for publishing it and spent years in litigation for daring to publish it.

The part about Nicole Kidman trying to get her Scientology auditing videotape back ...I don't remember where I read it. Perhaps she'll mention it when she is interviewed.

    Time May 6. 1991.

    http://www.xenu.net/archive/media/time910605.html

..."Sometimes even the church's biggest zealots can use a little protection. Screen star Travolta, 37, has long served as an unofficial Scientology spokesman, even though he told a magazine in 1983 that he was opposed to the church's management. High-level defectors claim that Travolta has long feared that if he defected, details of his sexual life would be made public. "He felt pretty intimidated about this getting out and told me so," recalls William Franks, the church's former chairman of the board. "There were no outright threats made, but it was implicit".....

Jon Atack explains some induction methods:

Scientology indoctrination usually begins with the Communication Course Training Routines or "TRs". These are supposed to enhance the ability to communicate, but have been called by one expert "the most overt form of hypnosis used by any destructive cult".

    Scientology TR-1
    Example of TR-1
In the first TR, two people sit silently facing each other, with their eyes closed. In the second, they stare at each other, sometimes for hours on end, inducing hallucinations and an uncritical euphoria.

In the next stage, TR-0 Bullbait, the student has to sit motionless, while the "coach" does everything possible to disturb him or her. The student progresses to reading aloud disconnected phrases from Alice in Wonderland, and then to acknowledging statements read out at random from the same text. Then comes TR-3, where the student repeatedly asks the coach either "Do fish swim?" or "Do birds fly?". In the last "Communication Course" Training Routine, the student again asks one of these questions repeatedly, learning not to be distracted by anything the coach says or does.

Repetition is another way of inducing an altered or trance state. Following these procedures definitely makes the individual more susceptible to direction from Scientology.

From the Communication Course, the new recruit will usually go onto the "Purification Rundown", after a meeting with a Scientology salesperson, who convinces the recruit

    Thanks, Refiners.

There is currently a lawsuit by someone who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to cure himself of his homosexuality via Scientology. Apparently Scientologists pitched John Travolta as an example of someone who could be "cured."

    From http://www.lermanet.com/cos/FABMagazine.htm

    SCIENTOLOGY, TRAVOLTA & GAYS
(photos of John Travolta & LRH in article)

If you thought that the Christian coalition's pray away the gay ads were
kinda wacky - you ain't seen nothing yet. Welcome to the tipsy turvy,
bizarre, freaky, scary world of Scientology. It's the same 'ol, same
'ol - homosexuality is the root of all evil but fear not for we can heal
you child - however, according to various reports, Scientology is far
more deceptive, cunning and ruthless in a brainwashing "tell me all your
secrets and you'll be saved kind of way".

The cult made headlines last month when a lawsuit involving a former gay
member and John Travolta was made public. Travolta is named in a
lawsuit that charges the actor helped the Church of Scientology deceive
a gay member into believing he could turn straight. Michael Pattinson,
a Newport Beach artist, alleges that the sect used John Travolta as an
example of a homosexual "cured" by the Church of Scientology.
Pattinson's 166-page complaint, filed in federal court in Los Angeles,
charges that he "reasonably relied upon" Travolta's marriage to fellow
Scientologist Kelly Preston as proof that "Scientology processing and
courses would 'handle' my own homosexuality".

Pattinson, who is suing the church, Travolta and 21 other members for
fraud, charges that he spent 25 years and $500,000 trying to become
heterosexual - but that he's still gay. Pattinson's lawyer, Graham E.
Berry - a longtime foe of the church who has often battled it in court -
told Star Magazine that "Michael was in a Clearwater, Florida,
Scientology center with Travolta and they used him as an example of
someone who could be cured of his "ruin".

Travolta's lawyer, Jay Lavely, told the New York Daily News: "This looks
like complete hogwash. Travolta is a happily married man, which proves
he isn't gay". Kurt Weiland, a Scientology spokesman, called the
    lawsuit "meritless".

Believe what you may - one thing for sure is that Scientology is
definitely one of the most homophobic and hateful cults out there. In
his book, "Ethics, Justice and the Dynamics", Scientology founder L. Ron
Hubbard sums up his liberal views on homosexuality:
"It must be noted...that promiscuity, perversion, sadism, free love,
homosexuality and other irregular practices fall far below an acceptable
level of ethics. A society which falls into this category can be
expected to abuse sex, to misuse and maltreat children and to act, in
short, much in way that the current cultures are acting...People who are
at this level on the second dynamic (that's Scientology mumbo-jumbo) are
intensely dangerous in the society since aberration is contageous...."
    (L. Ron Hubbard's young son, Quentin, a homosexual, committed suicide
over his failure to win his father's love and favor).

Of course that doesn't stop Scientology from financially exploiting the
gay community. According to Pattinson's lawsuit, the Church of
Scientology coerces gay celebrity members to remain in the Scientology
"closet". Various exposes, written over the past few years, indicate
that Scientologists use personal confidential information to keep it's
members in line. TIME Magazine, in an article of the cult published in
1991, revealed some of the blackmail tactics utilized by Scientology:
"Sometimes even the churches biggest zealots can use a little
protection. Screen star (John) Travolta, has long served as an
    unofficial Scientology spokesman..."

The church's former head of security, Richard Aznaran, recalls
Scientology ringleader (David) Miscavige's repeatedly joking to staffers
about Travolta's allegedly promiscuous homosexual behavior. At this
point, any threat to expose Travolta seems superfluous: last May, a
male porn star (Paul Barresi) collected $100,000 from a tabloid for an
account of his alleged two-year affair with the celebrity.

Travolta refuses to comment, and in December, his lawyer dismissed
questions about the subject as "bizarre". Two weeks later, Travolta
announced that he was getting married to pregnant actress Kelly Preston,
a fellow Scientologist who had just called it quits with actor Charlie
    Sheen.

According to Pattinson's lawyer, Graham E. Berry, of the Los Angeles
law firm of Berry, Lewis, Scali & Stojkovich, the harassment doesn't
stop with celebrities. Berry, is gay, claims that the Church of
Scientology employs a slew of private investigators and attorneys who
have tried to dig up as much dirt about him as possible. "As an openly
gay man, Scientology couldn't use my homosexuality as leverage.
However, they've used my sexual orientation to accuse me of white
slavery, pedophilia and drug dealing. They're quite a vicious group of
people". Berry has denied the allegations and has filed lawsuits for
    defamation.

    the "Purification Rundown",

Purification rundown is now pretty much where your regular recruit starts off in the cult. His/ her body is full of horrible toxins which have to be purged thru diet and behaviour modification regimens so as to clear his her mind to be able to percieve "reality" with clarity.

    Gawd help em.....

...""The Purification Rundown Replaces The Sweat Program" is said to contain the core of L. Ron Hubbard's "technology" regarding the removal of toxic substances such as drugs from the body. It is a regimen which includes exercise, sauna sweat out, nutrition including vitamins, minerals, etc, as well as oil intake, and a properly ordered schedule of activity. ".....

    sounds exciting.....

Well, what a big nothing that was. To persons who didn't get to see this, you didn't miss anything. The overall interview was enjoyable, but the Scientology part took up all of about 5 seconds, and Nicole really didn't say anything about it, except that it wasn't her beliefs.

Dan, I saw it too. It's a shame she didn't say what needed to be said about Scientology. I got the impression she just wants there to be peace between her and her husband. I guess saying anything negative about Scientology would ruin that.
