I hear ya Danny. We moved to Oregon for many of those reasons. We knew that for our plan to work we would need to rid ourselves of all California debt. It worked. The past 10 years have been here in Oregon and hopefully within a couple of years more we'll relocate to Maui for our last stop.

As for being a minority here, I think we may be. Too many people beleive the rhetoric spewed from the pacifists rather than thinking for themselves. That is basically why California is in the shape it is. The heavy votes come from the cities there... LA, San Fran, and others. The folks in the hills are generally more conservative, but are outnumbered by those "in the system" living in the cities.

Personally, I feel it will take a major uprising to shake the pacifism in this country.... otherwise, we will become socialist like Europe.... and let the govt take care of every aspect of our lives.

    LB,

Maui is about as good a final destination as I can think of. Snorkeling in Napili Cove (voted the most beautiful beach in the world-Conde Nast) was one of the highlights of our visit there. Not to mention the 'rainbow euchyliptus' trees on the 'road to Hana'.......Wow is all we could say.

That Hana Resort can't remember the exact name, is the hotel we plan to stay at on the next visit.

Have an idea where you will settle there?

Glad you made the exodus out of the Socialist Republic of California......we will probably do the same.

    Animal,

Believe me I know to well. We lived right smack dab in San Francisco for 13yrs before moving down to the central coast of California......we were so happy to get out of that caldron of misfits.

This state is one of the most beautiful, but the freedom to enjoy it and the expense it exacts is getting out of control. The tax burden to support all of it socialist agenda, is literally driving people away.

We love all the areas of Maui. We'll probably purchase a home in Kihei as it's fairly affordable. Since everything is close I don't think it matters much where I live there. I've dove along the rocks at Napili. Well I've dove everywhere. We've made some friends there and they've taken us to the out of the way areas.

Hana is great and if you are going to stay there for a week it's perfect. Especially if you want quiet. It's quite a drive to anyplace else on the island of course. For me it's not as good as the diving isn't as good on that side of the island, since it's the weather side. But there are miles and miles of gorgeous trails to explore. You might want a horseback trip while you are over there. You'll see fantastic waterfalls.
