I was always told by my parents even if your not going to be a JW always go to the memorial

You can calculate the memorial date for any year with this

JH, the WTS doesn't calculate exactly the way the Jews do. That is why some times Passover and the Memorial aren't on the same day. They explain it somewhere in the publications.
The date for 2004 is for the purpose of renting facilities other than the KH for the Memorial. Some KHs have 5 or more congregations sharing the same building.

I remember the time 8 of us planned a vacation and we were just about ready to put our deposits down, when someone called up and said, "We can't go then. We might miss the Memorial", (which was the next day). We didn't miss the vacation or the Memorial and we all had great tans, too.
