I am closing my email account listed on this site. Somebody has been trying to send me viruses via the account addy but so far I have been savvy and they haven't been able to cause damage. Fortunately for me, I have 3 other email accounts. My friends will be receiving my addy soon. I don't want to lose touch with you all.

    Cheers,

    Robyn

It was not done intentionally. Outlook Express is doing that automatically.

You know Microsoft's prefered virusspreading program. Now and then it is possible to send an E-mail by use of that program also.

Use another E-mail-application. Download Eudora or Pegasus from Tucows.

Or even better: use the Mozilla browser and program.

Mozilla is a no-nonsense and no-junk browser, developed as free software. It is a former Linux program and developed in the spirit of Linux.

Robdar - That stinks hun, but often viruses are not sent on purpose.

Yo, Crazy Carlo, what's shakin' dude! Long time no see.

    Little known fact....

You can have an e-mail account and use the MSN browser without MSN being your ISP. Hotmail....

I do this and have use of the "Internet Explorer" browser as well?

I am sorry that is happening to you, Robyn. The frequency of your problem indicates that someone is doing it on purpose. Especially since no one else here is reporting a problem. And if I recall correctly, they started after you spoke up in my defense. Correct me if I am wrong on that one.

    Richard,

It does seem to be more than coincidence, but I am not sure who is doing it, so I don't want to lay blame to any of the posters on this forum. I just know that the email addy that I had listed here has received 5 virus attepts over the past few days. Thanks for your concern.

    Carlo, Breeze and Zev:

    Thanks for your advice.

    Moe:

It's true...not all virus attempts are on purpose, thanks for reminding me.

    Ugg,

Yep, a bummer. Thank you for your concern.

    Love y'all bunches,

    Robyn

Number of attempted viruses I have caught since November 29, 2001 (just over a year ago):

    220!!!!

Note the following tip, which, depending on the virus/worm, and depending on the ISP used as the intermediary, you *MAY* be able to determine which L-User has the offending infection.

Read the complete internet headers: (these are ususally hidden by default in most email programs.

    For Outlook Express:

    1. Open the infected message (*NOT* the attachment)
    2. Click FILE (on the menu bar at top)
    3. Click PROPERTIES
    4. Click the DETAILS tab
    5. Look at the nerd-data (see below)

    For Outlook 2000/XP

    1. Open the infected message (*NOT* the attachment)
    2. Click VIEW (on the menu bar at top)
    3. Click OPTIONS...
    4. Look at the Internet Headers... section
    5. Look at the nerd-data (see below)

    Understanding the nerspeak:

It will look something like this (below). The main portion of interest is X-Apparently-From:
