You don't have to give notice, but in your case it might be a good idea especially before the announcement comes. JT hit the nail on the head with his advice and I cannot add too much. But I do believe that they will not want to fight you (unlike Bowen or some of the others). Simple math will say that there are only so many resources and if the WT expends a great deal of time and money fighting every DA/DF case it would be a drain of assets that could be better used to fight the high profile cases. Also the threat to sue the individual is key as the WT will not want to get involved at that level. They know if they do provide the elder with legal assistance that increases their liability exposure and therefore increases the likelihood that they would be included in the suit.
Good luck.

Olin Moyle did. He sued Rutherford for exactly that. I think received about $15,000 and the award was given after Rutherford died of &asshole cancer.
I didn't see that in a watchtower.

Scully:
I do know that threatening DOES work, I told the elders here that if they dared to smudge our character that I would do EVERYTHING in my power to make them regret it, including devulging the elder that has mega porn on his computer. the elder that sat in my home after we had fed him dinner (his wife was out of town) and told us he wished he had married a harlot! GEESH... So we have see hide nor hair of them even on the street LOL I told them they needed to pretend we are on a desert island and they can't get to us or know anything about us. It has been a few years since I have seen them so if you are one that can play hard ball then go for it. I do think that at some point there will be an attorney that will take them on pro bono just for the challenge it's just finding one that will fight the old farts ya know

Hey Scully,
What good advice! One thing I've learned.....don't speak with them. Do it in writing, certified return receipt. Also, put down at the bottom of the page
cc: (some attorney - preferably one you've spoken to)
his address & phone number for clarification.
Specify that any announcement and/or any communications will be sent to your attorney.
Everything we sent to a lawyer - we also showed carbon copied to the WT Legal Department, certified return receipt.
At least the locals then know for certain that they are being watched by lawyers on both sides - and both attornies know it. That's enough to give the heebie geebies to any person....let alone guilty sons of bitches like WT elders.

Hey Scully! I'm going to ask my husband what he thinks ..I'll get back to you...By the way, I don't know if you've read any of my 'novel' on the board; my hubby is an honest 'shark'..Hahaha...But he's had a really interesting life, himself...He actually sued the US Government and had a favorable outcome...He was in law school, FT, and got drafted, sued the US Gov.,and got a temporary injunction so he could finish school and then went into the marines as an officer..Was in a few months and they discovered he had a crushed disc in his back(congenital)and was honorably discharged! But it was a big 'thing'..He has been the only living person to do this.....Get back to you..NK
