Conscience move an elder to report? Bollocks. The internal cultural pressure to do exactly as Bethel legal says is immense. How many elders have ever really acted on conscience and not appearances? -

So the government will have to make a law requiring elders to report, otherwise the elders won't do what they know they should do. -

Thank you Angus for pointing out the pseudo-morality of their so called Biblical "ethics"! Not reporting an accusation of Child Abuse is just plain bad. However, after having investigated and determining that Child Abuse has occurred - and then STILL not reporting it - is truly abhorrent. -

The two witness rule, is there a scriptural basis? Matthew says "on the testimony of two witnesses" ... "It is left in the hands of Jehovah"... Well, it's not like we couldn't bring it up or investigate it again. The committee is not stupid, it's not like we think that because there are not two witnesses that doesn't mean he didn't do it -
