From: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/2587707.stm In pictures: World Trade Center plans Seven new plans for the site of the World Trade Center, destroyed in the 11 September terror attacks, have been unveiled in New York.

The fresh designs were drawn up after criticism that six earlier proposals were drab and uninspiring.

quite honestly I dont like any of them. I think the site should be either be completely left alone with nothing more than a memorial or small buildings---small in my mind would be 40 stories or less.

AOL ran a poll earlier. All but one I voted that "I didn't like it". The other one I voted "it's ok" ... really wasn't impressed.

None of them really look that good to me. But really I think the problem everyone is having is that we all miss the 2 Towers (not the movie!). Why not rebuild the Word Trade Center exactly as it was on the outside but hollow on the inside? That would be a memorial, as well as a defiant statement to terrorism. The skyline would be restored and it might do a lot to not only help heal the wound, but restore a little confidence. As for the lost office space, rebuild around the new WTC with enough square footage as required to meet the demand. Replace the buildings that had been destroyed with bigger ones (if possible).

I think it should be a memorial. Too many people lost their lives there, for it to be rebuilt.

I was not over impressed with any of the designs. I just thought it was an invitation or a challange for the terrorist to hit them again.

I kinda like the Idea of just turning it into a park like central park .New Yorkers don't have enough of that but we know the big business people will win out .

They may as well just erect a huge billboard with a big bullseye on it. Afterall, as soon as the towers are up again, they could become a prime target for nutters to pull down again.

Or maybe a big billboard with a fist showing the middle finger salute ?

Or maybe just a statue of Bush Jr waving his arse towards Mecca ? Hmmm..... quite like that one.

Rebuilding does seem to be 'showing the finger' but this seems to be the premise of much that has occured since the terrorist attack.

Cities are vibrant living places and the concept of the whole site being a memorial I find rather disturbing. It was an atrocious event that wont be forgotten, memorial or not. Hiroshima, Dresden and London were rebuilt after massive devastation and memorials small in scale.

One project that I saw in The Architects Journal was for one vast building that had two hollow voids from top to bottom where the WTC originally stood. I quite liked the idea behind that but the exterior was bit brutal, like the original buildings. On architectural merit I voted for the Libeskind project - the guy's a genius. Or is that furthe evidence of a Zionist plot?!

    Speaking of showing the finger....

Here's a picture I received of someone's idea of what the WTC2005 would look like:
