Turkey Broth, Anyone?

OK, we've picked all the meat off the turkey. Now, we've put the carcase into a huge pot of boiling water along with the chestnut stuffing, couple of onions and a few carrots. After an hour and a half, we'll strain it, toss in the bone jelly and the remaining meat, and serve huge bowls of turkey broth along with home made bread and stilton cheese.

Is this what most people do with their turkey once it's reaching it's end?

If they don't then they should! Turkey bones make fabulous soup, what a waste to just throw them away!

    Yes. More or less.

I always boil up the giblets with celery, carrots, and a couple of bay leaves to make about four quarts of broth. I then use some of the broth to mix with the stuffing and baste the turkey (rather than plain water)--the puppy gets the organ meat. The rest of the giblet broth will be the starting point for the soup made from the bones and jelly (not the stuffing, except what's stuck in between the ribs). My soup will have little pearl macaronis in it as well. Maybe some tomato bits, too.

And my husband treated me to some St. Andre cheese for Christmas, so with some crusty French bread, that's a meal made in heaven for me!

Happy Holidays to you and Her Ladyship, Mike!

EMan = I cook the carcass with any leftover gravy and stuffing, some carrots, onions, celery, laurel and cloves. strain it. let it cool in the fridge overnight. Scoop the fat out. Use the broth to make different kinds of soups. Usually turkey soup, with leftovers turkey meat, carrots, celery, noodles or butter dumplings (yum)...

What about the wish bone? Anyone still hangs it out to dry and then makes a wish with another?

    toss in the bone jelly

I usually boil the bones too for soup.........but toss the bone jelly OUT. I use to know this older man who would eat the marrow w/a spoon......

Since blood is made in the marrow, why do Witnesses find it acceptable to consume it? Easy, the bible tells them they can! Isaiah talks about "well-oiled dishes filled with marrow" yummy perhaps, but definitely NOT kosher!
