Sitting at computer and hear two males talking as they come up our path. Already suspicious, but when I peep out of my crack in the curtain, I see two blokes I don't recognise, wearing long-sleeved collared shirts and ties in what is strictly t-shirt weather. Suspicion confirmed. I run to the loungeroom where my wife is already crossing the floor to answer the knock at the door. I say: "It's the Dubs! Stall them until I get dressed!" (I'm still in my pjs) A couple of minutes later I get to the door and they say "Oh, hi! Just telling your wife we're giving away this pamphlet about the coming new earth..."
Me: Do you have the latest Towers and Awake!s?
Man1: Yes. You like reading them, do you?
Me: Oh yes! ()
They tell me what's in the mags, esp. the January 8th Awake! They tell me that it's about this great victory the JWs won in the face of religious persecution - an attempt to suppress their right to free speech! (boo, hoo!)
Me: Is that the Stratton Ohio case?
Man1: Er, yes
Me: You DO realise that that case wasn't just about JWs, but about requiring anyone who goes door to door to have a permit issued by the council?
Man1: Er, yes...
Me: They're not saying in the Awake! that this is an act of persecution purely against JWs, are they?? ()
Man1: Er, no...
They departed amicably, so maybe we'll get more of them in a few months' time...
