    1. They make up impossible to pronounce / spell place names such as (these are for real):

    Ysbyty Ystwyth
    Ynysmeudwy
    Ynysddu
    Ysceifiog
    Ysgubor-y-coed

(Y's much be very cheap to produce)

If Wales was rolled out flat then how would they all go "don tha varleeeee"?

    Simon, Welsh isnt' that hard.

Here are the letters of the Welsh alphabet, and a rough guide as to pronounce them:

Vowels as in... a long father short cat
    e long say short let
    i long keen short hit
    o long moreshort dog
    u long keen short hit
    w long tooshort put
y clear keen shortaside motherae tie
    ai tie
    au tie
ei ( } No English counterpart
    eu (
ywy Like the "owie" in Howie
"ei" and "eu" have no English transliteration. Try saying "tie" in a Welsh accent.
If you have never heard a Welsh accent before, then think of the "ie" part of "tie".
What sound does it start with, initially. The answer is "a". Listen closely!
Try saying it without the "a" part but with the schwa sound instead.
The schwa sound is the last syllable of the word "letter".
Consonants All as English, except: letter after as in... ch c loch (Scottish)
     dd d breathe
    f e van
    ff f fan
g ff go (never as in garage)
    ng g sing
ll l [place tongue as if to say "l", but just breathe out
    ph p fan
    th t thin

Okay, I lied. It is difficult

    Edited for formating

Is that the last time you 'won'? I guess politics is akin to Rugby then ... can you say Wooden Spoon!

Simon Now you know that rugby is a sore subject with us welsh at the moment, as indeed it was with you English during the 70s and early 80s. I suppose it is as sore as your cricket, but there again on aggregate we are 1 game ahead of you English, and of course we have been allowing you to catch up so that we can play on an even keel. Martin
