Such declarations will be subjectively interpreted to mean anything.

Perhaps not.. Maybe the Russian Government see Jehovah's Witness extremism coming from them teaching people that every worldly government will soon be completely destroyed and for people to put no faith in them what so ever. The sect’s leaders have continually denounced all other religions and all secular governments as tools of the devil, demanded they refrain from all pledges of allegiance to earthly governments and have historically displayed of contempt for “Satan’s world,” which included all other religions and all secular governments. Including that of Russia.

Perhaps they don't think it healthy or beneficial to have such a group of people expounding their rather extreme anti-government ideas so freely among their people.

    Just a thought.

I'm not against any practice or beliefe if it doesn't involve cruelty, cause death or deny children education. If it does, dump the cult carts.

It's amazing what a difference a year makes. Last year I would have been so angry with Russia and its overhanded tactics. Now I just feel apathy towards what they are doing. The Russian people have enough to deal with right now. They don't need the added guilt, fear and obligation dumped on them from some American sect. Also, they have their own KGB, they don't need to compete with the seven (k)GB in NY.

Thing is this is Russia. Where minority groups are targeted for unpleasant behaviour. Where the state turns a blind eye to actions by those who support it. Where censorship and restrictive controls are becoming the norm once more. Where speaking out against the ruling oligarchy is increasingly uncommon and increasingly dangerous. It's not some glorious crusade to show the JWs are wrong about neutrality, it's another case of the Russian state being heavyhanded, authoritarian and deeply unpleasant at its heart. The JW persecution complex really doesn't need feeding by it actually happening eg by the police turning a blind eye to mob attacks etc.

Good point. The Org will use the persecution as prophecy fulfillment that they are the chosen ones

Christianity did all of those things in the first century.

That's the same thing that an otherwise religiously tolerant Roman empire did with Christianity when they discovered that they were "haters of humanity".

    Yes. This is Russia.

And Russians have very long memories. This is evident in Putin's honoring of past political heroes such as Pyotr Stolypin and the raising to sainthood of the last Tsar and his family. What runs deep, very deep, in the Russian memory is the role of religious sects on the ruling power of Russia - Rasputin's ghost will always hover in that dark and bloody history and will never disappear.

Russia has a long history with cults and their influence on political events is an integral part of their past. In fact, there was an Apocalyptic cult that committed mass suicide just outside the edge of Moscow on the eve of the Tsar's abdication.

I know that this is "old" history to some, but in a Russian's mind, it isn't.

Fringe extremist religions will never get far in Russia when someone like Putin is in power. He is deeply rooted in the past.

Yes maybe they were wrong then too as they are wrong now. Both 1st century and 21st century religious extremism suck big time.

It's also possible the Russian Gov have been following the Australian Royal Commission witness sex abuse cover up crap and want none of that filthy sickness in their society if they can help it.
