Thank you for posting the document, which I found very interesting because it shows that Rutherford did not wait long after the death of Russell. I am interested of one detail loosely connected to this subject namely the number of Bible students that did not follow Rutherford. Do you have any estimate of the number of Bible students that followed Rutherford let us say until few years after 1931?
I understand that the time span is more that 15 years and that alone have its own natural effect on this issue. Also it is my understanding that Bible students were not so tightly connected together which makes it even more difficult to estimate.

You learn something every day. Thanks RR.
My question, RR - "so what?"
Constantly pointing to something that took place a century ago, why?
And what are your reflections on the size of the WT as compared to the Bible Students, I mean who grew and who did not?
Please do not take offence at my questions, they are not intended to hurt you or mock in any sense, just pin-pointed worded.
Greetings,
TOH
TOH,
The Bible Students were and remain a very low key, no pressure adventist sect. It is very significant that the Judge's ruthless (illegal) takeover of wtbs, changed the tone of doctrine to an in your face, loud speakers mounted on cars, vindication of god's name, die at the Great Day of God Almighty, fanatical religion.

Ps Is there any wonder why jw's grew more than the BS.?

It has been estimated within that 15 year period 1917-1932 some 75% of the ORIGINAL Bible Students abandoned the Society for various reasons. In 1932 the Dawn Publishers were formed by the same Bible Students who created the WBBR radio station for the Society and they were influential in gaining more converts among the JW's in the 1930s and 40s

True, The Bible Students during the Russell years were ALL independent congregations, the Society did not dictate to them what they should or shouldn't do. NOthing like it is today with the JW's. In fact there were already a few Bible Students who were publishing independently of the Society.
After Russell died there were several groups that emerged, and withthin those groups there were schism that occurred in later years.
Some congregations remained independent of each other, preferring to not align themselves with any of the new groups formed.
Among the groups formed were
the Pastoral Bible Institute, Inc. [1918 - still in existence]
The Stand Fast Bible Students Association [1918- defunct]
The Laymen's Home Missionary Movement [1918 - still in existence]
Dawn Bible Students Association [1932 - Still in existence]
In the UK and Europe there were also several groups that were formed.
It's difficult to determine just how many BIble Students there are or were.

Does it matter if it took place a cebtury ago? Why do peopel keep bringing up the Society's fasle Prophecies? Why bother bringing up the blood issue? Who cares, right? Why bother bringing up the pedophile issue, that's old news already, isn't it?
"Why" you ask? because it shows the Society's dishonesty. And how the Judge built his empire based on dishonesty!
And what are your reflections on the size of the WT as compared to the Bible Students, I mean who grew and who did not?
Well ... I gues had we closed the door to heaven and began focusing on and earthly class we'd be in the millions too. Actually, where would the Society be if they hadn't closed the door to heaven in 1935? Considering the numbers of those who partkae of the memorial every year, not much!

I don't take offense too easily, most on thos board know that!

HI RR,
I for one find your posts interesting and relevant, offering in many cases a view of the Watchtower world from a unique perspective.
As for the failure of the Bible Students to act, I am reminded of the axiom, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Consider the consequences of the Bible Students' inaction: a malignant cult was permitted to grow inimpeded. People literally lost their lives following the dictates of this cult, and many others who have kept their lives have suffered greatly as a result of the cult's teaching.
That it *might* have been "nipped in the bud" but wasn't because true believers "left it in Jehovah's hands" is unfortunate and is a lesson for us all.
Personally Nathan, I am one who firmly believes it would have mattered not if the Judge took overt, a split was inevitable.
Had Paul S.L. Johnson taken over, the results may have been the same. Who is to say the Judge would still have a following and there wouldn't be JW's today?
We don't know!
RR
You are correct, RR, we don't know what might have happened.
What we do know is that nobody bothered to try.
