Good for you, Robdar. I hope you continue your abstinence. My two step children smoke but my paternal daughter never tried it. I wish I could convince the step children to quit, but they won't listen to me or their mother. I don't allow anyone to smoke in my house, I can't stand the smell.

I love to read about someone with enough guts to quit, I know it's not easy but it's really worth the effort if you really care about life. Wishing you the best.

The tobacco plant "Nicotania" is a very beautiful plant, and it's flowers have a wonderful smell in the evenings! Lots of folks grow it just for these properties alone. Amazing how stinky it is when we smoke it.. hehheh. I have thought about giving up smoking, and actually did for a week once.. but it's just so hard that I almost cringe when I think of it. I have, however, thought about trying to do it with the patches. We shall see..

    Well done, Robyn!

I've never smoked, but both my parents were like chimneys!

You're obviously determined to kick it for good, and I'm sure you will. You'll probably add about 10 years to your life!

    Robyn:

    That is such good news!

    C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S !

    This was my parents:

I have seen nicotine addicts go without food just as long as they had their coffee and cigarettes.

They would have no food in the house, but my Dad had to go and spend what little money they had to go and get a carton of her nicotine sticks! Also, my Mom was on many meds with her cancer, she still would put her cigs above the need for her meds. This is how addictive nicotine is!

When I visited my Mom in the hospital the day before she died, these where some of her last words to me........."You know what I want more than anything else right now.........I want a cigarette!" This from a woman who was hours from death because of her addiction to cigs! There should be some place of eternal torment for the tobacco manufacturers who not only got rich off of the ignorant and uninformed customer, but hid the facts of there products lethal consequences!

    ON ZYBAN VS. WELLBUTRIN

Insurance companies are famous for not paying for smoking cessation drugs or programs, etc. Go figure. So they will not pay for Zyban.

However, insurance companies will pay for antidepressant drugs, and that's what Wellbutrin is.

So if you want to use a little boost from this drug, ask your doctor to prescribe Wellbutrin for depression and the insurance company will pay for it in 99% of casis. Remember that if you do this, you will have a record of treatment for depression with your insurance company. Remember, too, that Wellbutrin and Zyban are exactly the same drug with a different lable on the bottle.

    Go figure some more.

congrats and hang on in there, i gave up 4 months and 1 week ago, the first week is known as hell week, which i think was true for me too. when you feel weak, go look at no smoking sites, or at pictures of the cancer it causes, and soon the cravings will be gone.

    good luck!

I'll never put one of those things to my mouth again.

    Amen, Sister Shera. Amen!

((((((Spaz))))) Thank you for your well wishes.

I hope you continue your abstinence.

    Undecided,

Having quit before only to start again a couple of days later, I now know the tricks my brain will play with me to get its fix. Forewarned is forearmed in this case. Thank you for your concern.

    Country Girl,

I wish you well when you decide to stop. The thing that used to get me smoking again was stress. In order to quit, a person must learn how to deal with stress differently. The thing I realized was that after I had that cigarette, the thing causing me stress would still be there and so would my addiction. Let me know when you decide to stop. I'll be your support buddy.

TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME

Ugg, thank you for saying that. It is something that every addict should remember. Another thing that they should remember is that most cravings for nicotine go away in 5 minutes. But that 5 minutes seems to go on forever...LOL. If you smoke, stop yourself from reaching for that cigarette. The craving will go away.

You're obviously determined to kick it for good, and I'm sure you will.

    Spanner,

Thank you for believing I can do it.

There should be some place of eternal torment for the tobacco manufacturers who not only got rich off of the ignorant and uninformed customer, but hid the facts of there products lethal consequences!

    (((((Mrs. Shakita)))),

It saddens me to read the story of your mother. When she started smoking, the "experts" were still saying that nicotine is not addictive. I wonder what else these so called experts are wrong about?

Remember that if you do this, you will have a record of treatment for depression with your insurance company

Francois, I didn't know that. My ob-gyn wrote me the perscription because I asked for it. She didn't tell me and I didn't think that far into the future. Thank you for the info.

Many thanks to all of you for your encouragement. I can't wait til this withdrawal headache goes away.

    Love,

    Robyn

I to have quit smoking only three months ago .Iwent on zyban and trained myself to not pickup a cig. for at least two hrs. between each cig during each day,if craving got to bad i would chew a piece of nicorette gum. Each week i would extend from two hrs. to three then four etc.till i could go all day with out a cig. if things got real bad id chew my nic. gum.Now nothing after 33yrs. of cigs. and quiting many times this time i feel the strongest but will always consider myself an addict no matter how long , one cig id be back.No matter what nic. trys to tell you remember its a lie, even one will temp you to two. Keep it up , we[ will ] make it.
