...."In Sunday's Watchtower study the "faithful slave" finally admitted that it makes mistakes and is not infallible".....
Did it? Did it really. Id like to read that one. How did they admit this? By claiming the Apostles made mistakes too? (A Blame Transfer). In former days they liked to say that "some" of the members of the church expected too much (Another blame transfer). If the Watchtower channel has admitted it made mistakes that would be a feast for my eyes indeed. It occurs but rarely. Of course a single, brief, vague admission scarcely alters the effect of hundreds of absolutist statements in the minds of the members. I think "Dan the Man" called such admissions "throwing a bone to their critics". Good term.
Oz. I will have to submit to your superior authority on that one. At least till I get home from work. Then maybe I'll look it up and see if its truly been misapplied as you say it has. Perhaps it is some kind of dual application theyve concocted, twisting it till it fits both to the remnant and the Great Crowd. Perhaps its the newest of new light??
My son and I were discussing contradictory messages today; I said that I think all of JW's have a dysfunctional thought pattern respecting the org: we think that it is "god's channel" even though we read their words that they are not a prophet, and are infallible. Those two statements do not mix; especially the way they apply them. They give lip service to being imperfect, but if we want to discuss the problems and mistakes, we are accused of acting in the spirit of Korah. ( Of course, that would mean they are comparing themselves to Moses, right? Is that not a bit arrogant?)
Also, to echo blondie, all of us at one time or another have mouthed the platitude that of course they (the GB) are not perfect, they make mistakes. Ok, quick, name two or three mistakes or imperfections!? No witness can do it, because in their mind they MUST NOT think anything negative about "god's channel" or they have the spirit of Korah, or Miriam. Therefore, no "true christian" can or will come up with an example of the imperfections of "god's channel". It is a case of holding in their/our minds two completely opposite thoughts, and thinking they are both right!
