I'm so sorry to here your business is going under Sadie, keep your chin up!

May I ask what kind of business it is?

You may actually be able to continue it but not from a shop front, maybe over the web? Lot less overheads, and much more exposure.

I don't know what else to offer Sadie, take care ok?

Aztec, that avator is much prettier!

Hang in there things will get better and you will come out of it with a whole different outlook on life. Sure it's not the best of things to be dealing with at any time, but good will come out of it, be patient.

    Dear Sadie;

I am so sorry that you and your family are going through all of this right now. I do not know where you live, but I run a very large financial assistance program through the Salvation Army. We never charge for food etc. I would encourage you if you need food please find out when your local food pantries are open, or call your local Salvation Army. They really try to help in any way that they can. I will be thinking of you and your husband. Also it is illegal for any employeer to use age against you. You might want to call your local labor board.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Wanted to reply to a few of the questions. We live near Tulsa, Oklahoma. The economy was hit by some big businesses having problems, World Com was a big employer and American Airlines is having problems too.

Eleven years ago, my hubby worked for one of the hospitals here as a Electronics Tech. They started downsizing and decision was made to cut the Electronics dept and have it done by non-staff. My husband then started his own business of repairing electronics and also selling computer systems. He and our eldest son repaired everything, and we made a living for several years. Eventually things like VCRs and TV's were dropped because they could be replaced so cheaply, people didn't want to spend the money to repair. So we got more into selling and upgrading computers. they also got into networking. Now the computers are getting to be like VCRs and Dell is selling them so cheap, we can't compete with their prices. There's been alot of Mom and Pop stores disappearing over the last few years. I either get people coming in just wanting some free advice, they just bought a computer from Dell or from Best Buy and don't know how to use it. they don't want to pay us anything, they just want us to help them freely. Or I get phone calls from people wanting free help over the phone. I tell them go back where you bought it from, that's where the free help is. Sometimes I think it's good we're closing, maybe we can put our time toward things that actually pay.

We've been handling mostly businesses, goverment offices and schools the past few years. they have work that needs to be done but no money to pay for it. Work just trickles in, it's hardly enough to keep the doors open, and not enough to make a living. We're notifying our bigger clients that we're closing down the storefront but will be working from our home. We're also changing our phone number and giving it out to the ones we want to. I couldn't afford to keep the business phone on, and then I won't get all those calls wanting free help.

In the meantime, we've got to find something that will pay the bills and put food on the table.

Oldest son is married and out of the house, he managed to get a job working the counter at a car parts store and said he will try to work with us part time. Still have 4 more at home.

Please don't think I'm writing this looking for hand-outs, I'm not. I just wanted to share our experience, get some feedback and encouragement.

    Gotta go,

    Sadie

Wow, sadie, I don't blame you for feeling discouraged! Big Tex told you our story, so believe me, we understand what you're going through!

Get creative. See if there are any services you can provide for your community, like personal shopping or errand running. Since you write, send sample columns to the big newspapers in Tulsa and Dallas. Hire your photographer husband out for weddings, bar mitzvahs, publicity shots for local bands, etc.

Since you had your business for so long and it did so well, I know you will pull out of this.

    Lots of love,

    Nina
