The UK is on a roll at the moment with the EU. Being part of it, yet outside the Euro monetry aspect, is paying handsome dividends into the treasury.

And let me add that I think that American social conservatism is an economic crisis away from becoming a destructive totalist "true believer" movement. Just a visceral reaction to what I see in the conservative world, I'm not articulate enough to give a lengthy thesis on why I feel this way.

The sexual proclivities or indiscresions of a politician or other public figure, as long as they are safe sane and consensual, have nothing to do with their abilities at the job. Example; Mitterand was screwing around for years, and it was so common knowledge it wasn't news, even IF the French press had the freedom to report on someone's private life. Most Europeans thought think the USA was mad for pillorying Clinton for a blowie... although his popularity went down in France, as no one could understand how the most powerful man in the world would go with someone as determinadly homely as whatever the suckers name was.
The Germans can NAFTA off.
