Remember the tract that had a picture of a big scary looking hand with a grip around the earth and the title "who really rules the world?" I never really read all of the words in it until last night when I was looking at my mail. My husband laughed and said you'll never guess who wrote you a letter. I looked at the letter which was written and signed "Respectfully from a Jehovah's Witness". The letter was obviously from someone who knows me and wanted to send something "encouraging in these trying times." and to make sure that the next time Jehovah's Witnesses come to my door, I should take the time to listen. She must know I am disfellowshipped. Well, after reading the words in the tract I was so annoyed to think that they can actually have the nerve to pass this around. It says how Satan is to blame for everything, and that the demons were behind all the evil in the world. I thought to myself, the demons are behind what is said by the Watchtower Corp. If anyone still has a copy of this tract I would appreciate any comments you would have. I was so angry that I want to write her back with some things to make this person see that it is the WT that is led by teachings of demons.

Well first the Bible does say that the Devil rules the world so your quite reasonable objection is to the Bible not the JWs. I also think it is possible that you mailing ws someones field service. A number of years ago they emphasized letter writting as a form of preaching. Formaly you had to if you were a pioneer to list time spent letter writing separately on your report. The hours counted but they wanted to make sure noone stopped going out in service entirely. That is no longer necessary. Now many choose to spend service time writing a stranger who may live in an apartment or was not home when visited in person. So if you don't know them they probably don't know you and that your disfellowshipped.

Not so, when considering the picture - that is a jw point of view wherein the world = the earth. It is a tool of misconception. The world is basically how people are - their way - such as getting and deserving what you earn, your 'fair share' - different from that, giving freely (unconditional) and more so, giving totally, is like divinity - "if you would be perfect as your Father"

Fusing the earth and world for purpose of a swap is one of the methods employed for the jw con-fusion.

    This is a basic thing.

Lost me ...The concept of evil ruling the world/whole inhabited earth is scriptural. This is an ancient concept predating Christianity by thousnads of years. It is offered as the explantion for evil. A benevolent God is somehow prevented from stopping the workings of an evil God.

"For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16) Apparently the world of the redeemed is not the same world that Satan is the god of. (2 Cor. 4:4) Psalm 24:1 indicates that the earth belongs to God. Satan didn't create it, nor is he its ruler. (Dan. 4:25)

2 Cor 4:4 is talking about Jehovah IMO - see this thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=34456&site=3

His kingdom is "not of this world" - things don't work like they do in our world - there is simply giving without payment (condition) - as with God, witnessed by looking at the way the earth is for us - it rains on the good and bad alike - and such is divinity and the divine.

The "world", us, live in ideas of 'fair share' and 'just desserts' - like those who complained when other workers who hardly worked got a whole day's pay too - what a basic example of how things are for us in "the world".

Thank you Sirona.. that was an interesting thrad on 2 Cor 4:4. I have to agree that the simpler reding is that in which the "god" is refering to the giver of the mosaic law.(Yaweh) To whih I can add the use of the word aion often translated "system of things" at 1 Cor 10:11, where the Jewish arrangement and law are meant. This seems to me to furthur support the understanding that the "god" is refering to the giver of the Law not to Satan.

Sirona, I read the thread you recommended. However, most commentaries I have seen refer to Satan as the god of this world. This seems to me more in keeping with other passages like John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11
