Last night on local news,(Tulsa,OK) they warned of a terror attack before the end of the week. Urged us to stock up on bottled water and foods. Have sheets of plastic on hand to cover vents in case of a dirty bomb.

    anyone else hearing any warnings?

I think it might be a good idea to prepare. I believe things are alot worse than we know. The tape that was just released yesterday with Bin Laden is very disturbing and I also heard that people who live within 10 miles of a nuclear power plant are being sent radiation pills.Whats up with that!!

Thanks ladies, for the news, as I hadn't heard any "specific" admonitions, but then I didn't watch the news yesterday either. A few days back, Friday I guess it was, when the country was put on high alert, the local station suggested that all families agree on a secondary meeting place, in case some members could not get home (if there was an attack). They also suggested buying the two-way radios and they showed some cheaper models at Walmart, I think: $9.99 for the 2-mile-radius; and more expensive ones would provide a 5-mile-radius. I thought that was a good idea to keep in touch with people should all communication avenues be out of service.

I had previously seen a show at some point during the last year, about having plastic and tape to put up on the inside of your windows in the event of bio/chem attacks. I wonder how much good that would really do...? A friend told me more important is to have those "doctor-masks" to wear, and/or the gas-masks from the army-navy stores.

None of which I have gathered up. Water I can stock up on. I have loads of empty plastic bottles I keep around to fill up during the hurricane season. But that's about it.

Very creepy, very scary, very upsetting, all of it.

We've had the same terror warnings here in the DC area. And I hear in the NYC area also. The hardware stores are doing great business in plastic sheets. I suppose that is a good idea in case of a dirty bomb. However, I hope that a dirty bomb only makes the air dirty for a limited time, because if you successfully close off all outside air, you will only have a limited amount of air inside the closed space. You can't stay in a totally closed off space indefinitely unless you have a way to filter outside air. Maybe using plastic to seal off rooms doesn't totally close off rooms and only filters to some extent. Does someone know? Otherwise, you'll eventually run out of breathable air. That said, I'm going to make sure I have batteries for the radio, some canned goods, water and maybe some plastic for my little apartment.

I'm stocked up on beer! (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=45505&site=3)

Seriously, After 9/11 I put together an "emergency kit" that has several items in it:

    • Batteries
    • Flashlight
    • Candles
    • Duct Tape
    • Roll of Plastic
    • Rope
    • Radio
    • Gas Mask with NBC filter
    • And a few other things

My fridge and pantry are well stocked and can last a week or so.

There is plenty of air in your house to last a very long time. Nothing to worry about. Sometimes you see in the movies where people are trapped in a bank volt and they all start passing out after a few hours... in reality the average bank vault has enough air to last an individual for over a week.

FYI: Ever see those guys in the "space suit" getup that protects them from all sorts of nasty things? When they leave a site you always see them being sprayed down with some "magical" substance that kills all of the nasty germs and destroys all of the nasty chemicals. This stuff is nothing more than common bleach.

The FBI have tipped off 10 Downing Street that an attack on a commercial ailiner is anticipated at London Heathrow. As a result, 4 times as many police are now on duty plus several huindred troops in armoured cars.

Those Cheap Radios are line of sight only, they are on a high frequency, put out very little power, and if you get a brick wall or anything else between you and them, they aren't very useful, if you truley want to have communications, then get yourself an Amature Radio License, and get a real radio. Me, I'm going to continue to live life, no sheet of plastic with duck tape, is going to protect you from a dirty bomb, or biological agents. The only thing that will is if you live in a bubble, or a hazmat suite.

Englishman - Ya a friend from the UK told me this was happening over there, his dad is still in the UK, in fact his dad is the head something a ruther at Madame Tussaud's wax Museum, been on tv a few times.

Thanks, maxwell, I was thinking the same thing about lack of air. A girl's gotta breathe! I am thinking of having some extra supplies around just in case. However, if Dallas gets bombed, SOMEBODY'S going to be at Ground Zero since I work days and Big Tex works nights, and both of us work downtown. I guess the plus side is the other spouse will be available to take care of the children. And I'm not entirely sure this city would be much of a target, unless Bin Laden has a grudge against pickup trucks and big-haired women. And lawyers. LOTS of lawyers.

Man, this takes me back to the old "duck and cover" Cuban Missile Crisis days of my childhood.

What is kinda spooky about this whole scenario. is how closely it parallels the story line on the show 24, with Keifer Sutherland.

My wife and I have been watching the show religiously on Tuesday nights. ( Takes the place of the Ministry School and Service Meetings )

The story line at this time is the US goverment trying to prevent a dirty bomb from being exploded over L.A by terrorists. It's a pretty gritty show, not for the faint of heart, but strikes close to home.
