Joel...it's to bad you never got to really know your Grandma!..She sounds strange but fun! I find the best rule is..follow your heart!

Plus you never know how the witnesses are going to act!..I didn't think they would give my JW hubby a witness memorial because he wasn't active. He would occasionally go..but not regular. His family are devoted witnesses though!(At different congregations).

The "Brothers" wouldn't come to see him when he was sick ..had to beg...but they allowed us to have a witness memorial for him. They loved the opportunity to witness to the worldly people that came! Which they did!..Pointed out to everyone the "If a loved one dies" booklet in the back .

They even asked if they could visit me later..I said "Sure"..I'm going to tell them how terrible it was the way they neglected my hubby. He was inactive but very loyal!.. He had plans of going back when he retired but got sick!....They kept giving excuses why they didn't visit...I guess I should tell them to tell that to their "Jehovah God"...Huh.......

    Snoozy....

At least hubby got what he wanted!...Except he wanted his ashes spread at the KH...I won't do that...not yet anyway..It could be a parking lot someday! .He can wait for me... then we can be spread together somewhere nice....

Joelbear. Sounds like you have great parents. looking after their Mother A suggestion if I may- Why not drop them a line- To say you recognized what caring folks they were & that now Granny has passed on- You wanted them to know their kind caring way had not gone un-noticed by you. That will give your parents a lift in this sad time... (((hug

Hello Joelbear. May I add my words of support. I know how it is to lose older family who have always been a part of your life, and my heart goes out to you at this time .

Mouthy's words are spot on (as usual) that is good thinking .

    All the best.

Its sad when relatives die...especially, I think, if you didnt really connect with them. But I would go if I were you...for closure. To show that you are above all the crappola, and are just a decent caring person showing your respects to HER...screw the rest of em.

I am so sorry about your grandmother. My grandmother also died at age 97 in 1999. Even though we weren't close either, I still attended her funeral. I think I felt a sense of closure by doing this, and would have regretted it if I didn't go. You must do what you feel is right for you. Take care.

Sorry to hear about your loss Joelbear. If you can go, it would be a class act showing support for your mom, but you know your situation better. Take care..we're all thinking of you (wow, 97... you must have great genes)

    Joelbear,

Sorry to hear about your Grandma. Do you suppose you Mother would like you to attend? I would do it for her, if she wished it--to give her moral support. But only you can decide what you want to do. Your choice will be o.k. either way.

    We care about you.

You go if you feel strong enough. If not, go and take Mitch. If not that either, stay at home and mourn and reminisce. Funerals are for the survivors...not the dead. Go if you feel the need. In the meantime, you're in my prayers!

    Love,

    Andi
