Local announcement has even pimis amused. Wanting rooms for some event or refugees-not clear. Private room with private bath. Emphasis on private. The second one really floored them; long term guest houses or apartments being sought. No mention of butler or maid though.

I don't know if this was local or national.

I will offer my carriage house and servants rooms🙃 as soon as my overtime (tm) kicks in

A few years back, probably 10 or more the Watchtower was looking for people to lend their holiday trailers for volunteer construction workers to stay in.

The trailers had to be in near new condition and a certain length.

I didn’t lend mine because at the time I was too poor to own one.

    ROAD TO NOWHERE & HOSER:

    How about begging for assets??

From what I am reading on the forum about the JWs it seems their nerviness is reaching new heights.

Here is a religion that knocks education, has contempt for responsible people with full time jobs - but yet is asking for people to give or lend things of this magnitude(?!) What about damage and liability and insurance coverage, etc.?

This is what happens when you have uneducated people living a cloistered life who have NO idea how the real world works and what it’s like to make a living - and then having the balls to ask working people for things!

What's with the private bathroom garbage? Watchtowerites too prissy to share the same bathroom that the family they're billeted with shares? Are they going to expect a private kitchen and dining room, so they don't have to rub shoulders with commoners? Choosing beggars, thy name is "Watchtower".

    "Where was this announced please?"

Yes, some actual details might be useful.

USA mountain west. No idea if a big project is in the works or refugees or just fishing. Wife zooms, I zone out so had to ask her friend.

I vaguely remember over the years occasionally hearing such letters read from the platform. I usually tune that kind of begging out.

I think here in the UK it was related to 1) accommodation for visiting JWs involved in the Britain Bethel relocation from London to Chelmsford a few years back, and 2) more recently, something to do with putting up visiting JWs for the preaching campaign in the London area which is coming up soon.

Although I don't remember such letters in detail, I do recall thinking it's a bit crazy expecting JWs living in an expensive city like London where property is massively over-priced (and often too small for people to afford spare rooms and extra space) to just throw open their doors and welcome others to stay with them for what could be several weeks. Yeah, right. "Good luck" with that!

When I was a teenager the District Convention was going to be held in my city. This was in the 1960s when JWs could go through the Rooming Department" and ask for a room in a private home which was cheaper than a Motel/Hotel.

About a month before the convention all of the pubs. did "Rooming Work" instead of the normal Minestry, myself included. We went from house to house asking people if they would be willing to offer a bedroom and bath to PERFECT STRANGERS for 3 DAYS and NIGHTS for FREE!!!

I went house to house with another teenage girl and was astonished that in less than 2 hours 3 householders AGREED!! The rooming Dept collected money for those rooms but the householder got ZILCH.

3rdgen, did they blast "the World" as being evil, while relying on the generosity of said worldly ones? 🙄

I wonder how many JWs got lectured by their worldly benefactors as the price of that "free" accommodation? If not, I can't imagine a JW being a gracious guest and refraining from doing the lecturing themselves. Especially in Knorr's time.
