Thanks Nina for sharing that letter with us. It must have been very difficult to put that together. I think you channelled your anger very well.
The fact that you revealed at the end of your letter, that you are sharing it with the media, will force the elders to acknowledge that fact that they read the letter, even though you may get copies back as "return to sender"

((Nina)) - what a beautiful letter, strong and right on target! It definitely brought a tear to my eye. If they have a heart & aren't living in denial, they have to see what they have done to stumble their brother! And as you suggested, perhaps it will give them all cause for thought as to how the congregation treats those members who are elderly or spiritually weak.
Your father sounds like he was a beautiful, sensitive & loving person - the way Jesus intended it to be. They could all learn a lesson or 2 from him. Your comparison to the Pharisee's was wonderful.
I hope this helped you as well to work out some of the anger issues with this organization. And who knows? - perhaps we will be seeing you on the news soon!

As many of you know I am not much into writing the Cheese Cracker Man, but in this case I have to admit that the angle of approach was excellent:

" I am sending this to the editor of the Religion section of the Dallas Morning News for the same reason.
Now that is HOW TO DO IT MY FRIEND- never just send it to the cheese cracker men- since they ARE GOING TO DOG YOU ANYWAY – you could try this one as well
I highly recommend this tactic as wells SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE 10-20 LARGEST CHURCHES IN TOWN smile – AND MOST IMPORTANTLY INCLUDE THEM IN THE cc:

That was a wonderful letter. Nothing will mean anything to these elders and to the Society EXCEPT that you threatened them by using the media. Bad publicity is never welcomed.

This I doubt --due to the indoctrination process of jw, the wt has a phrase called IN GOOD STANDING IN THE CONGO
Without that status-- the avg jw knows how to treat and view such a person and for most elders anyone who is not in good standing is DIRT sad to say-
it is part of the ablility that jw have developed that makes it possible for them to shun and not speak to folks-
while many don';t like it ---the pack mentality kicks in-
I mean ask yourself------------ if the CO was standing beside you how many of us would speak to a Dfed person with the CO standing there, while some perhaps would , most in my veiew would not, THE CONCEPT of peer pressure prevents so many jw from showing "natural" feelings

You and your husband have been through so much lately, I hope that things calm down for you so that you can get on with the normal greiving process instead of being hampered by all the witness crap.
You are right about hitting the organization where it hurts. They, just like any big company, hate bad publicity. Sending the letter to the local media is just the ticket. I know our local newspaper has an editorial section that you can call in to complain/discuss anything, and I mean anything, that is bothering you. A forum like this can reach many people and will in turn give its readers more reason to question those quirky Jehovah's Witnesses who come knocking on their doors on Saturday morning.
I have family and people who I still care about still in the organization. My hope is that by your actions and those of others who are exposing the hurtful practices of the org., change can be possible. Hope springs eternal, huh?

Such a man would be facing internal torment, don't you think? Could it be a "Crisis of Conscience" in the making? Time will tell.
Perhaps, but we both know the person I speak of and I have a feeling that his life within is too comfortable to start the long climb. We shall see.

You diffinetly put the burden of responsiblility back where it belongs.
I agree with HS on this " Personally, I am ashamed that I was ever a part of such a system, let alone that I once supported it". Now with a trial beginning in the NW (usa) on how this shunning policy effected another family (father killed everyone in the family) I hope the average person on the street begins to realize the harm this religion has done and continues to do to people.
Please keep us informed of any "after effects" this letter may have.

and why 'apostates' like us seem so obsessed with wrecking the Watchtower Society.
Do any of you really think the words "We apologize, we were wrong" will ever be emitted by the cold hearted
sociopaths who run the Watchtower? Don't hold your breath! It reminds me of an old Gary Larson cartoon where
an alligator in court protests that "of course I killed in cold blood, I'm a reptile!"
My experience - after many decades in the 'truth' was similar to this sad incident. No justice, no truth, no honesty,
just the internal regulations of an unloving cult hurting sincere people.
That's why we're here. If the Watchtower became kind and loving and compassionate
we 'opposers' would all fade away.

Intense, Powerful letter that means a lot to all of us. Unfortunately, the rank and file for the most part along with the "spirit appointed" elders are, as some others noted, too brainwashed to see the callous nature of the Borg. JT hit the nail on the head with sending it to big churches. In fact, ask them to post it on their bulletin board. Many will. I sincerely empathize because I went thru something similar...when I lost my business, family and my faith. Lived in my office for a year in deep depression. Only thing that saved me from suicide was my therapist and a handful of "worldly" friends that came and checked on me. I asked my ex-wife(a good little dubbie) why none of my long-time dub friends would come by to talk? She said it was my responsibility...sounds familiar? Like someone in deep depression would do that. My own daughter (a super self-righteous dubbie) would go to the salon, located two doors from my office, spend hours there, and not walk down the hallway to see me or check on me. Once again, I have nothing but the deepest, heartfelt compassion for you and your family.

in my area the local big churches have built old folks homes for their members and others thru grants from HUD , etc point is they are involved in helping folks, as we all know jw offer NO CHARITY NOT TO EVEN THEIR OWN FOLKS--
so this would just be great
